Anna looks up at the clock, '6:00am'. She looks around at the room that was once her only comfort from civilization. Her mis-matched furniture; her feature wall that she painted herself; her array of books and graphic novels neatly piled atop her school revision. A simple teenagers room that seemed so warm and inviting but to Anna it screamed and spat at her so bitterly, it was filled with so many bad memories, seemingly that everyone close to her whom died stayed within these four walls, and was now just clawing their way back into Anna's mind, pushing her further away from the torture of reality. she collected up some clean uniform and walked to the bathroom to get ready for school. when she walked out again, she clung to yesterday's clothes so tightly to her chest that her knuckles began to turn white, the only thought in her head was, 'the last time he saw me, i was wearing these clothes' she walked over to the laundry basket and took three deep breaths and closed her eyes before she dropped the clothes in. Before hesitating to pick them back up again she ran downstairs and tried to focus on packing her lunch and school bag. she attempted to make a sandwich, and failed because she was incapable to open the new packet of ham that was in the fridge. instead of trying to make a different sandwich she decided to pick up a packet of crisps and an apple and shoved them in her bag, though she doubted that she would even eat anything. her mind went black when she tried to think of what lessons she had that day, well she didnt even remember what day it was anymore, so she gave up. she put on some shoes and her blazer. she actually did remember to pick up her bag before she opened the door and left.
it would have normally taken Anna ten minutes to walk to school but with her tendency to wander, it took her double that. she walked in through the main entrance, already people began to look at her awkwardly, recognising that she was the girl causing yesterday's drama. Anna took no notice, she just kept walking, straight upstairs to where she and her friends normally stood around in the mornings. they were all there, casually talking like nothing happened, until they saw Anna, then everyone silenced. A mixture of shocked silence and a silence when the person you're talking about suddenly appears.
"what the hell, Anna?! why are you here?" Anita exclaimed. Anna just looked at her blankly, like she didnt quite understand what Anita said.
"Anna? i thought you would have been staying at home today..." Anita stated, looking slightly worried. Anna remained silent as with the rest of the group. at least until Ben made his appearance...
"Hey babe.." Ben nodded to Anita from the bottom of the hall. "what's happening?" he asked as he barged past Anna to get over to Anita and hug her. Everyone gasped as Anna stumbled to the side.
"YOU FUCKING CUNT!" Anna snapped. she lunged forward and grabbed Ben by the throat. Everyone was to shocked to do or say anything, including the rest of the people that turned up by Anna's rather loud remark.
"IT WAS ALL YOUR FAULT AND NOW YOU WALK IN AND BARGE ME LIKE I DONT FUCKING EXIST! ARE YOU AN IMBECILE?" Anna may have been small but her strength at that moment was enough to keep Ben pinned up again the wall.
"im sorry, i really am..." he gasped, trying to pull Anna's hand away from his throat.
"OH DONT EVEN TRY IT! YOU'RE NOT SORRY! YOU DONT EVEN CARE! ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS YOURSELF, ANITA AND YOUR UNFORTUNATE RAPE CHILD!" Anita gasped at the statement. everyone now looked from Ben to Anita, who moved her hand subconsciously towards her stomach. Anna released Ben's throat and kicked him in the kneecap so he fell to the floor and sat beneath Anna. she lent down and whispered, "Pray i dont fell angry the next time i see your face, or this will be known as the nicest pain ill have given you." he looked up at her with fearful eyes, and nodded slowly, still trying to catch his breath back.
"so disappear..." Anna stood up straight and took a step to the side. Ben scrambled painfully to his feet and ran past Anna, taking one look back at Anita before he carried on running. Anna exhaled deeply as if letting go of all her sudden confidence. she dropped her head slightly and slumped her shoulders before picking up her bag and wandering into registration. she left everyone gobsmacked, staring at Anita and each other, trying to process what actually just happened.
'you gotta fall before you fly' Anna muttered to herself as she sat down at her desk. even the teacher looked confused to see her in school.
For the rest of the day she wandered around by herself, often over hearing people gossiping about her.
"is that her..?" she walked past two girls on her way to lunch.
"yeah it is..." the other replied.
"how sad. The poor thing." Anna lacked the energy to glare evilly at them, like she would normally, to shut up anyone who spoke of her, but today she simply couldn't function that way. Anna finally made her way to the lunch hall and walked in. she looked around and saw all of her 'friends'. she took one step towards them then shook her head and turned around and walked back outside, realising that she wasnt in the mood to socialize today. She wandered around the whole perimeter of the building and then the whole way round the school field before sitting down on an empty bench and took out her apple from her bag. She looked at it with disgust, she did not want to eat, her assumption this morning was right. she got up and threw the apple into the bin and returned to sit on the bench. she pulled out her phone and checked the time. she was supposed to be in class 15 minutes ago, she shrugged her shoulders and mindlessly began scrolling through her twitter newsfeed for another ten minutes, before she made her way back into lesson. nobody seemed to notice she walked in late, or at least didnt want to make it seem like they noticed in case it caused a scene.
Eventually it was the end of the day, and Anna decided she would actually go straight home today. she didnt want to see anyone else for a long while and the best place to do that was to surrender herself into her bitter, soul-seeking room, and that was exactly what she did. All she did for the next two weeks was read and sleep, and she probally would have continued like that if she hadnt collapsed on her way to the toilet one day...
"Hello, 911 emergency..."
