I was confident the mission would go off without a hitch. For starters, we had an extra member on our team and Kakashi was promoted to Jonin now. I knew Kakashi was talented and it made me so proud to know that he had gotten recognition for his skills. Kakashi and I had spent the night with one another, my parents were out on the battlefields already so they wouldn't have cared anyway. We were packing up our kunai, paper bombs, and whatever else would be beneficial to us on the battlefield. I took a glance around at his home. We were going to come back, this war was going to end, and everything would be fine. As long as I kept a clear level head everything would be fine. While I was preparing myself to get ready to go, in the process of putting on my day clothes and discarding my sleeping clothes. Something had slipped out of my bag and onto the floor. I assumed it was a kunai or something since I was still in the process of putting my shirt on I ignored it. It wasn't weird for me to get changed in front of a boy, after all my brother and I still shared a room. Kakashi was very close to me, we basically grew up together and if your mom makes you two take a bath together after getting sprayed by a skunk, you're not too worried about changing. Kakashi had picked up whatever had dropped and cleared his throat.

"Umm Ryoko, what's this?"

I turned around to see what he was holding in his hands. To my surprise, it was the necklace I had made for him. I decided now was as good a time as any to give it to him.

"I made it for you. It's a present to celebrate your promotion."

"Why's it in the shape of my family crest?"

I smiled at him. "Because I want you to still be proud of who you are. You are Kakashi Hatake of the Hatake clan. Your father was Sakumo Hatake, the White Fang of the Leaf a revered man and nothing like the rumours you've been hearing spread about him. He loved you and so do I! I made this so you don't forget where you came from and remember to be proud of who you are. I also hope it helps you along the way, I imbued it with my chakra. Use it when you need to get out of a bind."

Kakashi's face flushed a bit. He seemed to really like his gift, he wrapped his arms around me tightly. I smiled, returning his embrace. It had been years since I hugged him. He was very distant after his father died. I knew that six years of pain would not go away very easily, but being in his arms for the first time in a long time reminded me of my childhood friend. The little boy who was always sitting around in the courtyard reading while he waited for me to get finished with my lessons that day. The same kid who followed his father around like a little tail, that had the sweetest hidden smile, you could see it in his eyes how happy and innocent he was. The darkness that had showered over him for years seemed to give way to a small sliver of sunlight. A light that I was able to provide for him.

"Thank you..." He whispered in my ear.

I smiled. "Any time. Never forget that you are my best friend and always will be."

We broke from our hug, Kakashi still seemed flustered by my confession to him. He had placed the necklace around his neck and tucked it into his shirt so it wouldn't get snagged on anything. When he pulled his mask down to tuck the necklace into his shirt, impulsively I pushed myself into him, managing to snag a kiss from the face that very few people get to see. He was caught off guard by it but didn't pull away. He pressed into me more, returning my kiss. I could feel my face warming up from the passionate embrace we were wrapped in. Never did I think I would actually receive a kiss from the boy I grew up with. Once we pulled away, it was clear that both of us were flustered beyond belief so we had to finish getting ourselves together, bumping into one another clumsily.

After we gathered all of our materials, we joined the rest of our team at the rendezvous point. Minato went over the plan with us once more asking us if we had any questions and reassuring us everything would be fine as long as we stuck together and worked as a team. At this point, Rin and Minato-sensei had given Kakashi their gifts. I could tell in the way Rin was carrying herself that she had felt something toward Kakashi, the way she was a bit perkier around him and she seemed a bit flustered when giving him the gift. I ignored it, figuring that he wouldn't return her affection, not after I confessed to him anyways. That is if he did at all, at this point in our lives our bodies were changing and we were beginning to develop feelings we didn't fully understand. Besides, we had a war to fight, we didn't have time to fall in love or even think about these feelings we can't fully comprehend.
