Sometime after New Years and Sammie's 15th Birthday; 2019. The Clifford House
The doorbell rings, and Sammie steps out to the front porch.
Sammie: Well, this is a great surprise.
Emma: A good one, I hope.
Sammie: Of course.
Her group of friends have crowded into the porch, shivering in the cold.
Caleb: Happy last day of winter break, Sammie.
Sammie: Thank you, but what are you all doing here?
Aiden: Did your dad not tell you?
Sammie: About?
Maria: I really wanted to have one last get-together before winter break ended. I ran into your dad at the grocery store the other day and he offered to host!
Sammie: That will explain it why he's been cleaning all day.
Sydney: I know I've said this before Sammie, but your dad is so nice!
Michael: Now can we go come inside? I don't know about you, but I'm freezing my ass off out here.
Sammie: Oh! Of course! Come on in, Everyone.
Sammie's friends follow her to her room and lounge around while Sammie sits next to Emma and everyone else finds space where they can.
Emma: You know, I am so glad that the nine of us hanging out, instead of like, the entire school.
Sydney: We should plan more of these! Ooh. Like our movie marathons at the end of the last quarter!
Emma: That would be fun! I mean, this is already better than my dad's house over break.
Sammie: I know you two don't get along, but you had at least some fun over winter break, right?
Emma: A little, I guess.
Luis: I'm just happy you're back in town.
Myra: Yes Yes. We know Emma's back in town, but there's an even bigger issue to talk about!
Sammie: Which is....?
Myra: Ugh Sammie! Do I have to spell it out for you? What's the deal between with you and Emma?
Emma: Uh....
Emma locks eyes with Sammie for a brief before looking away, embarrassed.
Sydney: Oh yeah! Are you girls official? Not official? Casually dating?
Myra: The people demand to know, Sammie!
Sammie: All I can say is that we're both very happy.
Emma: I couldn't agree more.
Emma laces her fingers with Sammie's.
Sammie: I can't wait to see what happens next.
Myra: Ugh! You two are like molasses! Just make it official already!
Sammie: Moving on for now....You guys are ready for the new quarter?
Caleb: Definitely. Basketball season is going to be awesome. I hope we can pull off a win against Hearst this year.
Sydney: Cheer has your back, Sammie! Mia and I have been working on some sweet routines for this competition this quarter. We're gonna look awesome!
Sammie: Is that all you guys do on dates?
Sydney: Maybe not all of it.
Sydney avoids eye contact as she looks away, blushing slightly.
