Chapter 8: Game Over

Friday evening, at school....

It's the night of the basketball game against Hearst, and the gym is packed with students from both schools.

Sammie: Look at this crowd!

Sammie play a few notes to warm up, but notice Myra sigh next to her.

Sammie: Uh oh, that's a pretty big sigh. What's up?

Myra: It's just....I miss Aiden.

Sammie: Band isn't quite the same without him.

Myra: Today was has last day of suspension, but his parents won't let him rejoin band. It's not fair! He should be playing with us! It's our biggest basketball game all season! But no, his parents had to force him to quit.

Sammie: Look, Myra, Aiden's parents will come around. I don't think even they can keep him from music too long. Trust me, he'll be back before you can say 'Bach from the dead'!

Myra: Ha! Good one, Sammie. We'll make a jokester out of you yet. But that's a good way to look at it....thanks, Sammie! It can't happen soon enough!

Sammie catch Maria and Michael huddled together on the bleachers.

Sammie: I'll be right back....

Sammie head over and sit just behind Michael and Maria. They don't notice as she listen in.

Michael: Maybe now's the time to tell everyone....

Maria: But what will people think of us if we--

Sammie: If you what?

Maria: Oh, Sammie! I didn't see you there! We were just....um, talking about Basketball! Go sports?

Michael: Smooth, Maria. Real smooth.

Maria playfully elbows him. He smirks and elbows her back.

Sammie: You two are acting weird lately.

Maria: No, we're not! I don't know why you'd--

Michael: Chill, Maria. Everything's fine, Sammie. If it wasn't, you'd be the first to know.

Sammie: Okay....I'll hold you to that.

Sammie glance up from the bleachers and see Aiden walking through the gym doors.

Sammie: Look who showed up!

Sammie run over to Aiden, grinning from ear to ear.

Sammie: You're here! I feel like I haven't seen you in forever.

Aiden: Yeah, today was my last day of suspension, and since classes are over for the day, I can finally walk on school grounds!

Sammie: It's good to have you back.

Just then, Principal Isa approaches Sammie and Aiden. She stares him down and crosses her arms.

Principal Isa: You know the rules, Aiden. You need to leave at once.

Sammie: Hold up! But his suspension's over!

Payton, Myra, and Caleb notice the confrontation and rush over.

Myra: Classes ended a few hours ago! He's served his time!

Caleb: Yeah, I don't see a problem here.

Principal Isa: Well, the problem is that Aiden is not allowed on school property until Monday. I don't care that classes are today are 'over'.

Sammie: Oh....

Principal Isa: Mr. Zhou, leave now, or else I will have to resort to more drastic measures.
