Saturday evening....
Sammie arrive home from shopping for Maria's birthday present and head straight to her room to wrap it. She hear a knock on her door.
Sammie: Come in.
Scott: Hello?
Sammie: Oh, Hey, Dad! What's up?
Scott: I just wanted to see what you got Maria at the mall.
Sammie reach into a shopping bag and hold up her gift.
Sammie: Do you think she'll like this the personalized day planner?
Scott: Oh, wow, that's got her name all over it, huh?
Sammie roll her eyes.
Sammie: Very funny, Dad. They had a bunch of names, but they had one with 'Maria' displayed in the window. I figured it was a sign.
Scott: Well, Maria's certainly the planner type.
Sammie: I just wondering myself that do you think she'll have one already?
Scott: She might, but I bet she doesn't have a special one like this. She'll like it, I promise.
Bonnie: Squeak Squeak squeak!
Scott: Looks like Bonnie likes it too.
Scott opens up the cage and sticks his hand in. Sammie quickly wrap her gift for Maria as he pets Sammie's hamster.
Scott: So, have you decided what you're gonna wear to the party? I looked up the restaurant. It sounds swanky.
Sammie: Let me show you.
Sammie open up her dresser drawers and take out the lavender princess outfit.
Scott: Oh, wow, is that new?
Sammie: Yeah. What do you think?
Scott: You look beautiful. I can't believe my daughter is growing up so fast! Is Maria really turning seventeen?
Sammie: Yep. But don't worry, I'm not there yet.
Scott: It'll be here sooner than you think. But have fun tonight.
Sammie: I will. I've gotta go. Love you, Dad.
Scott: Love you too, Sammie. Drive safely!
A short drive later....
Sammie arrive at the restaurant and run into Emma on the way in. The hostess leads the two ladies to the back room for the party.
Sammie: Hi, Maria! Happy Birthday!
Sammie look around the room and realize it's almost entirely empty. Maria sits at a table, sulking, while two older men try to comfort her.
Emma: So, you're Maria's parents?
Stephen: Yes, indeed. I'm Stephen, and this is my husband, Jose.
Jose: Otherwise known as Dad S and Dad J.
Maria: Dad, please....
Everybody looks attention back to Maria.
Emma: Is everything okay?
Maria: It's my birthday, and nobody's shown up!
Sammie: Aw, Maria. They're probably just fashionably late. But what am I? Chopped liver?
Maria: Not to be ungrateful, but....you know what I meant.
Jose: Please understand, Maria's always had a lot of anxiety about party planning.
