Finally spotting a familiar someone in the crowd, Xiao walked through the mass of people.
The blue haired adeptus was talking to a small group of people standing next to a shop.

The Yaksha slowly walked up to her until he stood behind her and tapped on Ganyus shoulder.
The girl turned around and was surprised to see Xiao standing there. "Xiao! I didn't expect to see you here, are you alright? Can i do something for you?"
Xiao was pretty nervous, surrounded by so many humans and just asked "Can you spare a moment?"

"Uhm sure"
She followed the already leaving boy, away from the docks and towards the bridge leading out of the city. She didn't ask where Xiao was going, knowing that the Yaksha absolutely hated crowded areas.

In a quiet corner near the bridge, Xiao stopped.
"Alright, now why did you come here Xiao?"
He stayed silent for a moment before responding "You know a lot about humans don't you?"
"Well a bit, what do you-"
"What about human feelings?"
She said nothing, before slowly starting to smile. "Aww is there someone you like? Did the great Yaksha fall in love?"
"What?! No! I- i..."

Xiao thought about it.
What even is falling in love? I'm not even sure if i am able to do that.
"You?" Ganyu asked, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"I just want to understand them better" he mumbled, annoyed about Ganyu and her weird assumptions.

Ganyu smiled again, this time more dreamy. "Love... a strange feeling indeed. I can't really explain it but I'll try. Well it's like you don't want the person to leave. You enjoy her company and feel calm, sometimes it feels like you've got butterflies in your stomach"

Xiao hesitated before murmuring "Seems like someone knows what they are talking about"

Ganyus face turned red. "W-what? Absolutely not- I" It was hard for Xiao not to smile at her embarrassed face.
"Well thanks." He continued before turning away, wanting to head off.

"Xiao" Ganyu called his name. He turned around.
"Be careful. Take care of yourself."
He nodded. He had never really cared about Ganyu but she had always tried to help him with everything and be nice to him.
Hoping that he may become sure about his feelings now, Xiao left for Wangshu Inn.

Venti was sitting in the tavern. Surprisingly, he wasn't drunk. Well at least not completely. He came here on the search for Kaeya, the cavalry captain. As he found him, he was sitting at the counter, talking to Diluc who was visibly annoyed.

Now, Kaeya was slightly drunk and talking to Venti.
The bard took a deep breath and asked as seriously as he could  "Tell me Kaeya, how many times have you been in love?"
Kaeya hesitated. "Well i don't think I've ever really been in love. A few one night stands but nothing more."
Venti was surprised.
Wasn't Kaeya the one who slept through half of Mondstadt? And not a single time real love?!

Kaeya chuckled. "You look like you expected a different answer."
"Well you could say that" Venti replied and smiled a bit helpless. He had hoped Kaeya would be able to explain it better to him.

"Is there something i can help you with? You look a little upset." Venti didn't even notice that he frowned.
"Well... i wanted to get clear about my feelings for someone"
Kaeya grinned. "Hm, gotta figure it out for yourself. I don't think I'm a great help right now" he said, demanding another glass of wine from Diluc.

——

The next day, Venti had a headache.

He had been drinking with Kaeya at the Angles Share last night until Diluc threw them out.
So the bard decided to stay in Mondstadt and take a few days for himself before going to Wangshu and visit Xiao again.

It was weird, he already missed the dark haired Yaksha. Even though barely a day passed since he had last seen him.
Venti tried to summarize what he felt for Xiao.
I want to protect him.
I want to help him.
I want him to be happy.
I want him to live.
Is that what love means? There are so many other people that I want to protect, that i want to be happy. But there's something different about Xiao. Just what?
Just why was there no answer?

In the end, he gave up thinking about it.
I will find an answer eventually. Sooner or later...
