"I don't think you understand the terms of our agreement." Khonsu says. The blood soaked body of my ex-girlfriend is laying next to us on the roof, Steven is staring at me from below.

"No, I understood the agreement just fine Khonsu. I was your temporary avatar, I never took your stupid oath. I DO NOT swear to protect the travelers of the knight. And I WILL NOT bring YOUR vengeance to those who do them harm. I am done. Free me." I say, I'm still confused by what I did, it feels like one second I was in a hospital bed, the next I was smiling as Saorise's body fell limp.

"Hmm, you really think you know how this works
Y/n Spector. You were nothing more than a corpse when I found you. You really think you own your destiny? It's in my hands now, and you still have a debt to repay." He says.

I look up at him, I can tell I'm shaking, but he's right. Thanks to him I'm still alive, I should repay him.

"Good, I'll let you know when I have the next mission for you."

I'm so done with today, I just want it to be a nightmare. I want to wake up in my bed, or on Steven's couch, and I want it all to be a bad dream.

I head back the way I came sliding off the roof of their garage, off the car.

"What in the bloody hell was that?" Steven asks running over.

"I don't wanna talk about it Steven." I say side stepping to get away from his attempt at a hug. "Leave me alone."

I can tell he's disappointed but si just want to go home.

I almost run off the sidewalk into Layla's apartment building, closing the door to the outside world behind me.

"Layla? I'm back." I call into the apartment for the 3rd time today. She turns around and looks at me a confuse expression on her face. I ignore her and go to my room.

I close the door and lay face down in my bed, taking in the peace and silence I've missed out on since we found Steven in the storage unit.

After a few minutes I flip into my back, staring at the broken family photo. The way the cracks seem to come out of my face makes it look like I'm the one who ruined the family.

To me it's pretty accurate.

Tears fall as I remember what was said between me and the moon pigeon just 10 minutes before. If I had just left when Marc said I would've never gotten myself in this mess.

But now I have a debt I have to repay. That's the only Thanks I can give for Khonsu saving my life I guess.

I think about all these things as I drift off to a restless sleep.

I wake up around 10 to Khonsu standing at the foot of my bed.

"Oh god please no." I say dreading what he's about to say.

"You should be grateful, your going home. You have a mission in Chicago." He says.

"Chicago? I can't go to Chicago!" I say, it might sound like whining.

"And why not?" He asks, he knows very well that I can.

"I have...homework." I say the last word very slowly as I pray he doesn't realize the month.

"It's July, get up we're going." He demands before disappearing.

I flip back into the pillows.

"Get up!"

I get up brush my teeth, hair, grab a granola bar. Layla's not home.

My phone rings.

Marc.
