James grumbled bitterly under his breath as she glared over at the Ravenclaw table where Olive was currently sitting with her new 'friend'. He stabbed his fork into the steak he had on his plate as he glanced between the curly redhead and the lanky loser sat next to her. "Who even is he?"
Remus looked at his friend sympathetically. "Roger Tucker," he said, cutting his cubed potatoes into smaller pieces. "I met the two of them in Honeydukes during our last Hogsmeade visit. She said they were on a date."
"You met them! And you didn't tell me? Why didn't you tell me?" James exclaimed, his heart sinking into his stomach. "And a date?! With Roger Tucker? He's not even that good looking! And his name is stupid. Roger tucker — more like motherfucker, am I right?" He watched as Olive let out a hearty laugh, not even checking if Sirius' — who was sitting beside him — had even gotten his joke.
His joke that wasn't actually a joke.
His jaw tightened when he saw Roger pile food onto Olive's almost empty plate without her even asking him. She was too busy rummaging through her bag to notice, but when she did, she smiled at him. She didn't notice Roger blush, but James certainly did.
"He fancies her," said James, his elbows on the table in an unaware attempt at making himself bigger. Sirius sighed from beside him. "Do you think she fancies him back?"
"Well they were on a date —" said Remus at the same time Sirius said, "A lot of blokes fancy her, mate." he slapped a hand on James shoulder and shook him lightly. "Get over her, or go for it. There's no in between."
"I can't," James sunk down into his seat. "What if it changes everything? What if she doesn't fancy me back."
"Mate, it's rather obvious she doesn't fancy you back." Sirius deadpanned, making James glare at him. "But it's only because you haven't given her a reason to think of you as anything other than a friend."
James grumbled angrily under his breath, while Sirius went back to eating and talking to Marlene. "What do you mean by 'many blokes'. Who else?" He asked, the fact that he wasn't the only one that liked her bugging him.
"Oh but seriously," Olive laughed. She was sat with one of her legs up, leaning against the table as she picked apart a piece of bread. "Roger, not in any universe — would I ever allow you to read that absolute horror of a novel, if you could even call it that."
