The Unknown Soldier
At the end of World War One, thousands of Australian soldiers were buried in battlefield cemeteries overseas. Those whose identities were not known were buried in graves marked with simple words:
"An Australian soldier of the Great War - known unto God."

During the ceremony, Prime Minster Paul Keating said even though the nation did not know the soldier's identity, "He is all of them. And he is one of us."
