Dominick was having a really hard time after his conversation with his mother. He felt horrible for how tense things in his family were, but he would not try to repair things with his father when his father wanted nothing to do with him.
"Are you as nervous as I was when I met your family?" Olivia asked, as she and her boyfriend drove out to her mother's house. Olivia had been invited to Thanksgiving, and when Serena found out about Dominick, she insisted on having them both over.
"I don't know... I guess? I'm worried that your family may not like me. Especially since I have huge plans for us." Dominick replied, as he looked over at Olivia. They came to a stop sign, and Olivia looked at him and smiled.
"Dom, if they like you or not, we can still get married."
"We can? Don't you think your parents may want to be there?"
"My mother is too focused on the twins, Rick, and the shop that I don't think she'd notice if I got married without her being there. Rick is not my parent, and he made that clear years ago. Ella and Gavin... as long as they are the center of attention, they are happy." Olivia sighed.
Once they pulled into the driveway, Olivia got anxious. Many cars were parked there, and Olivia knew tonight was going to be completely focused on the twins since all of Rick's family seemed to be there. It would be like every holiday since Serena got pregnant with the twins. Olivia would fade into the background as everyone watched in awe of her siblings.
"I thought my family was big." Dominick breathed, as they got out and walked up the path.
"This is Rick's family." Olivia replied.
"It's still-"
"Okay, I don't want to snap or anything, but please stop. It's important that you don't call them my family, because I'm nothing to them. They will correct you too. I can promise you that."
"Liv, I didn't know things were that bad." Dominick breathed, as Olivia shifted from foot to foot.
"It's no big deal. We just need to get this over with, and then we can go home. Maybe have a few drinks and play a game."
"Or make out." Dominick offered as Olivia continued up the path.
"Sounds good to me."

Serena was so busy being the host that it took her over an hour to realize that Olivia was there. She went into the kitchen to check on the turkey, but found her daughter already basting it while Dominick was mashing the potatoes that had been left boiling on the stove.
"Olivia?" Serena questioned.
"Hey, Mom." Olivia spoke, without even turning to her mother.
"When did you get here?"
"About an hour ago. Dominick and I have been keeping up with things in here."
"Thank you. Uh, what's your name?" Serena asked, even though her daughter had just said it.
Olivia took a breath, as Dominick turned to look at Serena.
"I'm Dominick Carisi, Mrs. Worth. It's great to meet you."
"It's good to meet you too. Olivia hasn't told me anything about you, minus the fact she was seeing someone." Serena replied with a sigh.
"I'm sorry." Olivia mumbled as she watched her mother look Dominick over. There was an awkward silence before Rick came into the kitchen.
"How's dinner coming along?" He asked.
"Liv-"
"Turkey needs maybe another half hour. I can start setting the table and getting everything ready." Olivia offered, and Rick nodded.
"Good. Get to it."
Olivia grabbed a stack of plates, and Dominick grabbed the silverware and napkins. They walked out of the kitchen and into the large dining room.
"He didn't even greet you." Dominick whispered as he watched Olivia sit plates around the table.
"That's Rick for you."
"But-"
"He fell in love with my mother, not me. He wanted kids with her, but didn't want to be my father. There is never and will never be a relationship between us. I have accepted it, and clearly it doesn't bother him that I'm never around."
"I'm sorry." Dominick frowned, as he heard clapping out in the living room. When they had arrived, Ella and Gavin were putting on a show and it seems like they just finished.
"No need to apologize, baby. All we need to do is better than our parents are. It's what I strive for."

Dominick was angry by the time they sat down for dinner. He was pissed off that no one but Serena said a word to Olivia, and he especially hated how they got stuck in the kitchen eating while everyone else sat at the table. Dominick was so angry that no one seemed to care about Olivia, even her siblings and mother.
"Do you wanna head out to your parents' after this?" Olivia asked, as she came back and passed her boyfriend a glass of water.
"No."
"Are you okay?" Olivia asked.
"I'm angry, Liv."
"Why?" Olivia replied.
"No one here gives a fuck about you here! Your siblings haven't said a thing to you, and everyone in that fucking dining room looks right through you. Hasn't your mother tried to get them to accept you?"
"I don't want you to be angry about what is happening tonight. I have accepted it and have gotten used to it. You will too." Olivia breathed as she reached out and gently rubbed Dominick's leg. He took a long drink from his cup before shaking his head.
"No, I'm not going to get used to my girlfriend getting treated like shit. That will never happen." He huffed before standing quickly.
Olivia didn't know what was happening until she heard the swinging door open. Olivia jumped from her chair as she heard Dominick ask for everyone's attention.
"Dom!" Olivia whispered, as she grabbed his arm and tried to pull him back. She loved him and was glad he was so protective of her. But she didn't want him to make things worse.
"Who even are you?" Rick sighed as he looked at the stranger standing beside Serena's daughter.
"You may not love Olivia or think of her as your step-daughter, but she is. Everyone in this room is a complete jerk for not accepting Olivia. For not talking to her. You are treating her like crap, and I won't stand for it." Dominick huffed. Olivia swallowed hard as she watched Rick's face grow red with anger.
"Don't worry there, buddy. She won't have to deal with being treated how she deserves anymore. You both aren't welcome here anymore. So get out."
