Dominick and Olivia continued to argue about the entire situation, but Dominick never once laid a hand on Olivia or tried to kick her out of the house. He just accepted his spot on the sofa every night, while trying to help Olivia take care of her siblings with very minimal words spoken between them.
One morning, he woke up earlier than usual. He could hear his wife moving around the kitchen as she made herself breakfast and tea. Dominick climbed off the sofa and grabbed his robe before padding into the kitchen.
"Are you okay?" He asked. Olivia turned slowly to face him, before shrugging.
"I don't know."
"Liv-"
"I got a call from the prison last night. Rick has requested to see me, so I'm heading in to see him."
"What? Liv-"
"He said he needs to talk about what happened. His lawyer won't be there, and I'm not a cop when I get there. This conversation is off the record," Olivia replied. Dominick grabbed her arm before she could turn back to the stove, and locked eyes with her.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner? I can drop the kids off at school and then join you. I don't feel good sending you and Milo to a prison where you could get hurt. What if you go into labor? You'll be over an hour away from the nearest hospital."
"I'm sure a prisoner would act as my midwife," Olivia said with a weak smile. Dominick wasn't impressed, as he dropped her arm and moved his hands to her hips. They hadn't been close in a while, so he was a little shocked when she didn't pull away.
"Please, Olivia. Don't go there and talk to him."
"I have too, Dom. My mother already has her fourth infection from getting shot, so I don't know if she'll end up making it out of the hospital. I've gotta hear what he has to say, so if I can give my mother some sort of peace... then I can have some, too."
Dominick nodded slowly, before leaning close and kissing the corner of Olivia's mouth.
"Call me right before you go in and as soon as you leave. If you need anything at all, I can break all the laws to get to your side in a matter of minutes. Okay?"
"I'll be fine, baby. Um, can you take your pillow upstairs and toss it on the bed?" Olivia asked, as she stepped back from Dominick and went back to the stove.
"Huh?"
"You are sleeping in bed with me tonight. I need someone to calm down Milo, and I think he's tired of me. We spend so much time together, he just needs a little time with his daddy," Olivia smiled.
Dominick grinned widely at his wife.
"I'll be there at nine on the dot."

Olivia walked slowly into the prison and got patted down. She turned in her items before being led down a hall and through several doors. Once in a room, Rick was led in. He sat across from her as a guard stood right outside the door.
"How is she?" Rick asked softly, his hands cuffed in front of him.
"She is on her fourth infection. She's in the ICU right now," Olivia replied, deciding to not hide things from the man that caused this all.
"Is she going to make it?"
"We don't know. Ella and Gavin have been asking about her, but also asking about you, too."
"What did you tell them?" Rick frowned.
"The truth, Rick. But they don't believe me, so I'm waiting for word from anyone to see if I can send them to stay with your mother or sister."
Rick frowned as he looked down at his lap. After several long moments, he looked up at Olivia.
"I'm pleading guilty to the attempted murder of your mother. Uh, also assault."
Olivia's eyes went wide as she leaned forward slightly.
"Huh?"
"If I go to trial, what I did to you will come out. I know they can't charge me, but-"
"You are doing this to protect mom," Olivia breathed.
"I do love her, Olivia. A lot. I'm a bad guy, and after all the shit that has gone done, I turned into a even worse guy. So if I plead guilty and take all the blame, they won't charge her with trying to hurt me," Rick breathed.
Olivia swallowed hard, as she tried to figure out if he was meaning what he was saying.
"She'll want to get a divorce from you, so you can't fight that," Olivia spoke.
"I won't."
"Good. I can't tell you to not contact your children, but don't fuck them up more by contacting them. Or maybe you should contact them and make sure they know what you did."
Olivia stood and turned to leave, but was stopped when Rick spoke.
"Um, congrats on the baby. You are going to be an amazing mother... also, I'm sorry for what I did," Rick breathed. Olivia turned around slowly as tears slipped down her cheeks.
"I hope you rot in hell, Rick."

Olivia sat beside her mother's bed with a mask covering her mouth and nose. Serena was incredibly weak. Her immune system was barely doing anything to fight off yet another infection. The doctor had called Olivia on her way home and told her it might be wise to come in and say goodbye. Dominick was on his way up with the twins because no one knows how long Serena would be alive.
"Hi, Mama. Uh, I went and talked to Rick today. He loves you, and so he's going to say everything was his fault. He's pleading guilty," Olivia whispered as tears fogged up her glasses. She reached out and touched her mother's hand that was bruised from the IVs and that was incredibly cold and almost blue.
"I really hope you make it, because I don't know how the twins will do if they are without both parents for their entire lives. I don't think I can raise them, so hopefully one of Rick's family members can undo the damage he caused," Olivia mumbled. She went to speak again, but stopped when the door opened.
Ella, Gavin, and Dominick walked in together. Dominick moved to his wife and hugged her tightly as the twins quietly held Serena's hands and tried to figure out what to say.
"I'm sorry, Liv," Dominick breathed.
"Not nearly as sorry as I am... I know why I cut off contact, but now I'm realizing that she missed so much of my life and Milo will never meet her."
