Kabanata 21: Tell Me
(the day after the family dinner)
It was shit. No, my life is shit now.
This is just terrible.
What am I going to do now?
Ngayon na ikakasal na 'ko kay Silas? As much as I want to take it back, it is too late to do that now.
I also think that I ruined everyone's vibe last night's dinner and now we're eating all together as a family for breakfast. Walang nagsasalita at ramdam ko rin ang talim sa titig ni Karine sa'kin.
She's trying not to say something, not to curse in front of our parents but I know that she's using her eyes to swear at me.
Too late, Karine.
I said what I had to say.
Feeling ko naman din na dapat sinabi ko na lang sa kanila sa tamang oras at araw, hindi dapat sana nung family dinner kaso nung nabasa ko yung papel na yun, my emotions took over and I knew what I had to do.
"How's your morning, ladies?" tanong ni mom sa'min, ngumiti na lang si Cerine at tumango kay mom habang si Karine naman ay nakapokus sa breakfast at si Elijah ay nakangiti lang.
"Geneva? Karine?"
"I'm good, mom. Thanks for asking." ngiti kong sagot.
"Good, mom."
I get it.
Galit siya sa'kin, pero 'di ko maintindihan kung bakit.
Dahil ba si Silas ang pakakasalan ko o may iba pang dahilan kung bakit?
Si Cerine naman tinatapik si Karine para kumalma siya, as if gagana yung tapik tapik niya, nasa harap kaya niya 'ko.
"I'm done." biglang sabi ni Elijah sabay tayo.
Alam ko ang ibig sabihin ng ngiting yan, he wants to be somewhere else because of the tension between me and Karine, 'di rin nakakatulong na hindi namin alam kung okay ba talaga si dad na ikakasal ako.
"Already?"
"Yes, mom."
"And where are you going?" tanong ni Cerine.
"Work. I have a project to do."
Liar. You liar!
Kinindatan naman niya 'ko at binalik yung upuan sa may lamesa. He's such a liar! He always runs away when it comes to family issues or tensions, eh yun naman ang ginawa niya nung nag-away silang dalawa ni dad sa pinili niyang career.
"And what about you, Aster?" sabat naman ni Karine.
"Do you not have any date... with your stupid fiance?"
"Excuse me?"
What the heck? Sumosobra na 'tong babaeng 'to? Sa harap pa nila mom at dad?!
I know what she's trying to imply, she's trying to find some mistakes or make me say something stupid so she could find out why am I getting married to Silas.
"Karine..."
"No, I mean... you announced it to us, right? Bakit 'di mo na lang sabihin sa'min kung kamusta yung date niyo or... kailan nagsimula 'tong relasyon niyong dalawa, ha? You never told us the other details about your relationship."
