I couldn't bare the silence any longer.
"You're right." I stuttered, "Self defence isn't the only reason I want you to teach me."
"I could have told you that." Agatha said with an eye roll.
Choosing to ignore her I continue speaking.
"It's just... well, after everything that happened. You know with you erasing my memories and then locking us in the basement and...just watching as you attacked my mom, knowing that there was nothing I could do. Having you slam me back to the earth while she fought. I couldn't stand it. And I refuse to be that powerless ever again. I won't! And if you still insist on hurting my mother then I will stop you! And I don't care if it's you who teaches me or if I have to learn from google because I will do so. And if you have a problem with that well then, you can just..."
"Kill you?" She suggested.
"What no! No." I'd forgotten again who I was speaking too.
"Relax." Agatha said, "I'll train you."
"Wait what?! You will?"
"I'm bored," she grumbled, "and also curious. You and your brothers are the first mutants to be born with magical powers. I'm curious to see how this all plays out."
"And your not worried about me hurting you?" I asked.
Agatha threw her head back an laughed maliciously.
"You? Hurt me? Oh no, dear I assure you that's not possible. I will always be stronger, it's just a fact."
"Says who?"
"Me." She spat back in my face.I let out a sigh of deep frustration and restrained from ripping the hair out of my head. Agatha was truly infuriating at times, but I guess I also kinda admired her.
"When do we start?" I asked, while chewing anxiously on my nails.
"I need a break from driving so we can stop at a motel tonight. I'll teach you there."
I didn't know what a motel was, but I nodded. It did become clear to me however that growling up in Westview had had many disadvantages. I mean sure I knew all basic knowledge, and I was smart too but I'd never once heard of McDonald's or Motels. What else was out there that I was oblivious too? After another few hours of mind numbing arguments and driving we finally stopped at the motel which was about as fancy as a gas station and nearly in shambles.
Almost everything was broken or falling apart and the furniture looked nearly a century old."Room for two." Agatha grumbled as we walked to the front desk.
A slim man behind it smiled brightly at us.
"Well hello there, may I ask what your doing round these parts. We don't usually get many visitors.
"We're just on a little road trip." I responded aiming to be as unsuspicious as possible.
"How nice," he replied, "I'm assuming this is your mom."
I glanced at Agatha and nearly burst out laughing.
Before I could say no Agatha wrapped her arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer.
"I sure am," she said in her cheerful Agnes voice, "isn't my daughter such a charm?"
I rolled my eyes and wanted to sink into the ground as the man replied and handed us the room keys.
"That man was insufferable." Agatha muttered dropping the act as soon as we were out of ear shot.
"Did you seriously have to pretend to be my mom?" I complained.
"Your kidding right? Don't you think it's going to look suspicious if I'm just happening around the middle of no where with a child that isn't mine. This is just to ease any suspicions."
"You have magic," I retorted, "if anyone questions you you can just send them flying."'
"Do you want me to teach you or not?" She snapped purposely shoving me into our motel room.
"Oh you've gotta be kidding me." I groaned at the sight of the room.
It was honestly the most run down space I'd even seen. With a bed that was more like a mattress on rusty springs, curtains filled with moth balls and a chair that was falling to pieces."Ya this isn't happening." Agatha said before muttering a spell and completely renovating
the room.
Where the single bed was she created two comfortable queens. The chair turned into a lavish couch and silk curtains that framed the window.
"I'm mean I'm was just gonna suggest we sleep in the car but this works to."
Agnes gave me a superior smirk and went to lounge on the couch.
I collapsed on the bed, I'd only been alive for a day and felt exhausted. How would I face what was to come?
"You should sleep." Agnes suggested in a hoarse voice, "we leave early tomorrow so rest while you can."
"Alright." I muttered, "do you have a bed preference?"
"Well your already lying on that one so I suppose the other one is mine." She said bitting her tongue to prevent her annoyance.
"Okay then."
Note to self, let Agatha chose her bed.Despite being exhausted I could not for the life of me fall asleep.
I tossed and turned for hours, which resulted in several annoyed huffs from Agatha and her eventually restraining me using magic.
"Go to bed Lorna." She barked, before releasing me, "and stop fidgeting."
Easier said than done, I thought as the night drew on.
Eventually however I fell into a kind of troubled rest.
When I woke up next it was probably around four in the morning. I glanced at Agatha who was sleeping in bed. I don't think I'd even seen her so calm, it was strange.
Just as I was about to roll over and fall back asleep a faint buzzing filled the room. It only grew louder as I attempted to ignore it but oddly didn't awake Agatha.
After a while I had enough and dragged myself out of bed.
Still half asleep I stammered around the motel room. After tripping over the shoes I'd left in the middle of the room and banging my head on a table I finally found the source of the noise.
Agatha's pendent vibrated on the dresser next to her and glowed a slight purple hue. I gasped as I drew nearer and the light flickered. The closer I got the brighter it grew until almost the entire room was lit up by its dull glow.
"What on earth?" I whispered and reached forward slightly.
My finger tips grazed the surface and purple flashed before my eyes. Pain and suffering danced thought my veins as memories and flashbacks overcame my vision.
It was all over in a second when Agatha jumped out of bed and pinned me against the nearest wall.
"What do you think your doing?!" She growled angrily as though I'd just committed a crime.
"I-I'm sorry it was glowing, I-"
"I don't give a shit about your excuses Maximoff, just don't let it happen again."
"But it wasn't my fault it just-"
"I don't care!" She shouted, "touch my stuff again and I'll slice your fingers off."
I flinched unconsciously and trembled as Agatha pulled away.
Everything about that woman was terrifying but it hadn't always been.
There was a point were a saw her as family, maybe even a friend.
She has been my aunt Agnes but now it seemed that person was gone. Maybe that person really never existed."I'm going back to bed." I whispered shirking away to hide under the sheets.
I didn't want to see or hear her ever again.
But what was that buzzing?
What had I seen?
I remembered images, lots of them.
Glowing blue light turning purple.
Agatha tied to a pole and - her mother maybe?
Regardless it had been horrifying, especially when Id gotten a glimpse at the life drained coven members on the ground. They looked like my mom did in her battle against Agatha but worse.
I guess she really had killed her whole coven.
Imagining what the witch next to me could do sent shivers down my spine.
I couldn't think about it for another second.
I shut my eyes and forced myself to sleep, praying that I'd be lucky enough to wake up.
