Wine turned a shade darker when I twirled it for the nth time. I took a sip then let out a sigh, watching the stars in the sky on my balcony. Small table beside my chair had the second bottle of wine which I held and poured more.
I wanted to go numb, totally forget how these four years went by so quickly and from a teenager I became an adult who was assigned to do things I didn't wanted to do wholeheartedly but did it because that what this career was all about.
"You had enough." The glass was snatched by the woman who came to check on me in middle of the night. She's not my agent anymore but still cares for me like a sister. "Y/N, you'll catch cold. Let's go inside."
"So you came back to check if your ATM was functioning well or not. At least you came or you're just like others who leave me at my worst." She pulled me up and grabbed me by my shoulder. "It's not that. You can't even think straight in this condition. You're tired."
"No! I'm tired of pretending. I pushed her away though I stumbled myself for few steps. " I'm tired of acting how good I feel when an actor kiss me, when he takes advantage of camera and touch me inappropriately. And you know what, everyone in the room knows that but they act like they didn't see it."
I dropped down on floor and remove my cardigan to show the nail marks I got today from my coworker. My waist was bruised with red lines and it was ugly and disgusting. Patriarchal system still prevails and I hate it to the core.
She ran to me and instantly show the marks below my crop top. "Oh my god! Why didn't you told me before?"
"T-Told you what, Ms. CEO? Mom did right to bribe you away from me. She left me with no one but her watch dog who works like a robot. My secretary herself is jealous of me and barely tells me my schedule. It's like I am on my own..."
She pulled me into a tight hug and I wrapped my hands around her. It's been four years since I last hugged her. Life had changed a lot and I lost myself piece by piece with every send, that right now I feel hollow.
"I.. I am lost." My whisper took me by surprise on how fragile it sounded. It was a weak plea, usually did by those who wants help before their end.
"It's okay. I'm here for you, no one will hurt you anymore. I promise." She rubbed my back and helped me get up. Crying in her embrace brought back a bit of soberness I required to lead the way to my bedroom. She liad me down and covered me well. She ran her hand over my hair and said," Sleep well, Y/N. Next morning there won't be any darkness."
My eyes became heavy and I drifted off to sleep. I woke up with an amazing hangover, totally knocking me senses to stay stable and not fall down. Somehow I managed to go bathroom to vomit, then brushed my teeth, did defection and got a cold shower. I also hissed when the water trailed over the marks from yesterday bringing back the memories of how devasted I was and drank till night after arguing with my secretary.
What a day it was!
A sigh escaped my lips before I wore my bathrobe and made my way downstairs in my empty house. It had furniture but no one lived here other than me. Just like any time of my life, luxury but no love.
I accepted this life, more like bent myself to adapt myself because I did not wanted to runaway from the truth and the truth was me being... A citizen of South Korea.
Not funny, I know but I found it funny.
No parents but not an orphan, a movie star but with no friends so the only thing I was certain of was my citizenship.
I screamed. Literally screamed and it was the second time in my life I did it. He got startled and almost dropped the omelette out of the frying pan. Wait! That's my pan, my kitchen, my house but who was he?
"Who are you?!" I shouted, running towards the corner of the living room which was attached to the kitchen, to get my metal baseball bat. I gripped it in my hand, ready to swing and shoot a home run.
His back was broad, brown hair combed backwards and tall body with his back turned to me. Weirdly, he was wearing a black suit.
"I asked you a question Mister or I'll hesitate to take law in my own hands. Put your hand up, now."
Huh, typical dialogue from my last criminal drama but I liked it so I used it.
He switched off the stove and severed the omelette on a plate. He wasn't giving a shit about how alert I was and could break his legs in a go. "Hunger makes you angry."
For the first time I herad his calm voice, it was deep and raspy. Does robber skip your heartbeat and then rob? I shook my head and tightened my grip.
"Who are you and why are you in my house? If you want money then leave, all I do is net banking and all jewelry is in bank. It's a useless house."
"It is useless but my workplace." He chuckled and turned to face me. I swear if it weren't reality then I would had blood rolling down my nose because he was beautiful and I wasn't exaggerating it. He was mesmerizing, intimidating and every single adjective that describes external beauty.
"Wow..."
"Excuse me?" He tilted his head while making his way towards me. I instinctively covered my mouth after knowing how I was checking him out. Even in those round specs and black tie he looked like a Greek god.
I pointed my finger at him."Go away. It's not a workplace, it's my house. I could put you behind bars for invading my property."
He laughed before putting the plate on the dinning table where already a bowl of soup was placed.
"I didn't invaded it illegally. I'm your new Secretary. Your CEO, Hyejin is my college friend and has 'begged' me to take this position." He emphasised on beg and then took out a piece of paper, extending it for me to read.
I took a step ahead then two back, it felt like approaching a lion, ready to attack in case I trigger it. I couldn't believe I was this scared in my hangover. Argh! Now I hate alcohol.
I went through the contract papers and it was real. Legal stamp was pressed on it with Hyejin's and his signature. I glanced up from the papers and saw him casually retracing towards the kitchen, taking two breads and putting it in toaster. He started whistling, looking around before his eyes settled on mine. I raised the papers up and hid my face.
Now, I know that he was more than a secretary. He's my secretary, bodyguard, servant, everything I wanted him to become, he was marvellous in all. Actually, he was getting paid more than anyone of us; more than me and I wonder why?
His work was like a babysitter too since he was granted a guest room in this house. Company house really play with my last nerve.
"Go, get dressed. You can't show me your thighs."
Blood rushed to my cheeks and I immediately bent low, pulling the hem of my bathroom that initially reached mid thighs. Oh god! Why they had to rose up?!
"You're a pervert." I remarked.
He chuckled before catching the bread that sprung out of the toaster and placed it on another plate. He turned to me and said," I never asked for a morning seduce. Go, change your dress. Your morning shoot starts in two hours. And your day is packed except the little break in afternoon."
Wow, he already goty schedule. He's pretty fast.
I went up and did ran up after throwing his whatsoever contract on the couch. I wore a floral dress and a leather jacket over it. After doing a light makeup, I came down and did my breakfast while he cleaned the washed the dishes. He even washed mine when I finished. I was impressed because for the first time someone did an effort for me.
We walked out of the house into a black car. When I was about to sit in backseat he grabbed my hand, an electrifying shiver ran down my spine, as if I knew him. It felt familiar, comfortable and his fragrance was vanilla?
"Have we met before?" I asked, giving him a pissed off look.
"Do I remind you of someone?" He leaned closer with a sinister smirk. I yanked my hand away, massaging the wrist. I scoffed," I think I have mistaken."
