Abel: I was visiting my girlfriend Lexi in New York for New Year weekend and she was overly excited about the surprise date she planned for us.
"Can I at least get a hint?" I asked as we got into the Uber.
"No but I promise you're gonna enjoy it."
I bopped my head along to the music on the radio as I wondered where she could possibly be taking me.
After ten minutes we pulled up outside of an art studio. We got out the Uber and I grabbed her hand as we walked inside.
"Hello, welcome to Artful Expressions." I woman with bright pink hair greeted us. "What class are you joining tonight?"
Lexi answered. "The divine feminine."
"Ooh, that is a great class. It's right down the hall in studio 2."
"Thank you."
I let her lead me to the studio and when we walked in, I immediately noticed the lack of women in the room for what I assumed was some sort of couples art class.
A woman standing by the door gave us the materials we needed then we went and sat in front of a pair of easels.
I asked. "Is this a couples class?"
"It's supposed to be but I don't see a lot of couples..." the woman that gave us our materials walked by and Lexi waved to get her attention. "Excuse me ma'am?"
"Yes?"
"This is the couples class, right? The divine feminine?"
"Ooh, no the couples version of this class is tomorrow night."
"Really? So what are we going to be drawing?"
"We have a live model for this class."
"Ooh...okay, thank you." The woman walked away and Lexi turned to me. "We should go."
"What? Why?"
"Because I thought this was the couples class and you were supposed to draw me...not some other woman."
"But you already paid for the class so why don't we just make the best out of it?"
She smiled a little. "You're right, let's enjoy ourselves."
After a few minutes, the instructor started a spiel about women in art and the heavy influence women's bodies played apart in art throughout history.
"Okay, now that all that is out the way. I would like to introduce our live model for the night. Since this class is all about women and the divine feminine, I chose a model that is nothing less than that. She's a double major at the NYU where she studies and excels in dance and drama, she's a musical artist, activist and the list goes on and on. So here is our model Indya!"
