Heather. Blonde hair, blue eyes, clear skin, perfect body, the whole package. Lavender. Brown hair, brown eyes, acne, chubby... basically the whole opposite. And Aiden. In love with Heather, of course, just like every boy at Thorn Secondary school for witches and wizards.

Heather was only two years old when she conjoured fire for the very first time. Lavender was, of course, 4 years late. She was 8 when she conjoured water. Her grandmother described her has "Another mistake." She remembered her mother and father protesting, and her grandmother shouting back. Her grandmother had always treated her as an outcast, just like everyone else. She was supposed to be a dark witch, the strongest witches were.

Heather was always treated like a princess by everyone at school. The teachers, her class, even the cleaning staff. As soon as Lavender met her, smiling and beautiful, she hated her. She hated her because she was beautiful, smart, perfect, she hated every part of her.

Lavender loved Aiden, She loved every part of him. His dark, wavy hair, his mysterious gray eyes. She loved the scar across his face because it was a part of what made Aiden himself. She loved that he had a tattoo of a lion on his shoulder. He was perfect- Lavender loved it. But she hated it when he started dating Heather. She hated it when they kissed, hugged, said hi in the corridors, held hands in class, when the teachers paired them together in class. She hated every single part of their relationship. She hated that they were absolutly perfect for eachother.

Lavender was always treated like dirt at school- she hated society. She hated how society decided what was the strongest power, who dies because of how weak or strong their power was. She hated that water was the second weakest power, after air and before earth. Water can create tsunamis- it can destroy islands. Destroy civilisations. But she never brang it up, of course, by fear of getting killed by the rules of society.

And look at Lavender now: all of her choices have led her too the TSSSFC. Thorn Secondary Schools Secret Fighting Club. It has been training young witches and wizards since 1987. And yet Lavender cant seem to get anywhere. She can't be bothered. They were going to get found out soon anyway. One of her old friends in the fighting club has already informed the staff. "So whats the point of trying to learn anything?" Lavender thought. "Its just a bunch of stupid movements were probably going to forget anyway." Shes already told her best friend Edith about the whole thing.

"Maybe you should give training a chance?" suggested Edith, tucking a lock of midnight black hair behind her small, elf-like ear and pulled her glasses up her nose. Lavender shrugged and looked away, focusing her chocolate brown eyes on the green grass of Ediths garden. "I don't think its worth it. That girl already told everyone about the club anyway." Lavender replied. "Plus, I only have a week. I heard the headmaster saying to the leaders they have a week maximum to shut it down yesterday." Lavender said insensitivly. "What difference will it make if they don't just shut it down now?" They sat in silence for a few seconds.

"So your not ever gonna try? Typical." Edith snapped.

"What? What the hell do you mean by that?" Lavender replied, with anger in her voice.

"I mean, you never try with anything- it's just so obvious that you wouldn't try with this. C'mon, you're strong, I don't see why your so scared to do stuff like this."

"Is that supposed to be a compliment, Edith? The reason why I don't try is that even my own grandma hates me- and she's trying to put my parents against me! And my mum already blames everything on me because I have a younger sister. And they're all dark witches, just like I was supposed to be. I'm supposed to live Heathers life and-"

"So this is all about your jealousy about Heather? Seriously, this is why most people don't hang around you. All you talk about is how you hate Heather and Aiden together, how perfect Aiden is, how you hate Heather, and lots of other pointless things from year 7. All you talk about is yourself. I don't know how I put up with it."

Lavender was stunned . Her and Edith usually just fight about the little things- sitting next to an annoying guy in class, having a better grade, who gets the bigger half of the chocolate doughnut. All the things best friends fight about. Lavender wanted to tell Edith how lucky she was to have Edith, how amazing having a best friend like her was.

"I guess your just lucky your that patient." she joked instead. Edith smiled sadly.

"Guess I am."

Monday, 8:20am, Thorn Secondary School For Witches And Wizards.

"Now for another day in this hellhole." She pushed open the door and got ready to prepare herself to the chatter of what people did on the weekend. And, just like every Monday, the unbearable noise of 1,500 students filled her ears. Lavender had gotten used to it. She walked right to the small group of people that actually liked her, which of course included Edith, and her other good friends Riley and Felix. "Hey girlie!" Riley greeted her and Lavender let her hug her, embracing the aroma of her cherry perfume. "I haven't seen you all weekend! Me and Felix were hanging out and we fell asleep on his sofa while watching a movie. I had to drag him to school." Felix smiled sheepishly and raised one hand. Lavender smiled back and waggled her eyebrows. Felix blushed and looked away, and Riley looks confused and after a few seconds, realised. "Wait no we didn't- I- Oh my god..." Lavender and Edith laughed and sneaked away, leaving the two lovebirds muttering excuses.

"Clearly they like eachother. They've hung out every single weekend." Lavender giggled. Edith laughed.

"I know, right! Even Rileys dad would let Felix be with her- and Felix needs a good girlfriend. Hes given enough girls a chance, and they've always ended up breaking his heart."

They stared at eachother for a moment and Edith sighed. "Look, Lav, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say- all of the stuff I said. It just came out automatically and-"

"Is that really what you think?" Lavender interuppted. She knew she talked a lot about Heather, but she didn't realise thats what she talked about all the time. And, just as if thinking about Heather summoned her, Lavender turned a corner and there she was. Golden blonde hair, sky blue eyes, perfect clear skin. She was wearing a pale pink jumper,a gray short skirt that showed off her long legs. She had white sneakers on, with one shoelace untied. Her shiny pink lipgloss  would have made Lavender swoon if she didn't hate Heather so much. She sighed. As much as the hated the blonde beauty in front of her, she didn't want to be mean or anything. So she walked right up to Heather, and said one thing.

"Hey, your shoelace is untied."

Heather turned her ocean eyes towards Lavenders brown ones, and smiled. "Thanks Lavender." She got down on one knee and struggled to tie her shoelace. "Eh- sorry, can you do it up? I can't really tie up my shoelace and-"

"Sure."

Lavender got down and looked at Heather, noticing Heather was looking at her. They both smiled and looked at the shoe. Lavender could feel Heathers minty breath on her cheek. She felt disgusted at her actions. Smiling at Heather Hart? Honestly. She quickly tied a bow and got up, feeling disappointed that she didn't accidentily hit Heather and destroy her beautiful face. "See you next week!"
