Chapter 5: "Dash 'n Splash"

TWO WEEKS AFTER THE FIRST RACE

Kakuei, Wakumi and Hidetoshi were just chilling at the lounge area.

Kakuei: It's very nice to chill out after twelve minutes of intense training.

Wakumi: I mean, what's so intense about it? You're just watching some dumb car go around some dumb track.

Kakuei: It's not a dumb car! It's a fast car.

Kakuei proceeded to bite into a daifuku mochi.

Kakuei: They're not the same as the ones from the downtown bakery.

A racer walked up to the three.

Racer: Yo guys, do you know who's attending this race?

Kakuei: Huh?

Racer: You know, the Team Lio- I mean Leo dude?

Kakuei: Kazahaya Shigeru?

Racer: Yeah, him! He's gonna be participating!

Kakuei grinned in excitement.

Hidetoshi: Heeeere it comes.

Hidetoshi and Wakumi ran as far from Kakuei as possible.

Kakuei: YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

The sound waves of Kakuei's yeah threw the racer into a wall!

Racer: Ow.

Wakumi: He's just a driver. No need to overreact.

Kakuei froze in place, then turned to Wakumi.

Kakuei: Just. A driver?

Wakumi: Uhh, yeah.

Kakuei: Well I'll let you know that that driver was one of the three people shown in that one presentation.

Wakumi: So?

Kakuei: He's one of the top racers for this season! And he's in this race and I'm racing against him and—

Kakuei fainted.

Hidetoshi: Did he—

Wakumi: No he didn't die, he's just overjoyed.

A Hoverblock hovered up to the three.

Hoverblock: Dokuro Kakuei of Team Tomy Racing, the race is about to commence.

Kakuei pushed himself up.

Hoverblock: I would advise you to-

Kakuei: Yeah yeah I know.

Kakuei pushed the hover block away, then dug into a duffel bag and pulled out the Rokuyon.

Hidetoshi: Hold up, where'd you get that duffel bag?

Kakuei: I dunno.

The three walked onto the transport platform.

Kakuei: So, uh, why haven't I seen my crew chief yet?

Wakumi: What do you mean?

Kakuei: I mean, last time I saw Tomy Racing on TV, they had a crew chief. I think his name was Austin Mercer or something.

Just then, a piece of paper flew into Hidetoshi's face.

Hidetoshi: Ow.

Kakuei: Wait, let me read it.

Kakuei took the paper off Koki's face. It said:

"Convenient paper from Tomy. Austin quit."

Wakumi: Huh.
