Chapter 8: "The Girl of the Shadows"

Announcer: Ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls, enbies, welcome to the first ever bonus race!

The crowd exploded with applause (as they always do)!

Announcer: Now, you may be asking, "Announcy man why a bonus race?" Well, this race is for a taste of Dojo Restaurant's new Teriyaki Speed Bowl!

The announcer presented a bowl of noodles with balls of teriyaki and a narutomaki in it.

Announcer: While this fast bowl of noodles comes out tomorrow, Dojo has agreed to partner with the ASC to hold a race to determine who gets to try the bowl first!

Spectator: Wait, couldn't it be presented at a stand—

Announcer: For this special race, eight of our spectacular racers, finest or not, have been chosen to participate.

The big screen showed the eight participators in the race, then the two cars in the front, those two being the Marine-Drache and the Tigon Special.

Announcer: And Team Leo's Kazahaya Shigeru and Monster Racing Team's Penumbra take the pole!

As the drivers walked to their control stands, Kakuei looked at Penumbra. Penumbra looked back with a smirk on her face. Kakuei started to get a bit nervous.

Hidetoshi: Yeah, don't focus too much on her for now. Focus on the race! Focus on winning! Focus on the noodles!

Kakuei: Alright...

When Penumbra got to her stand, her earpiece beeped.

Mr Jones: Do you read me, Penumbra?

Penumbra: Yes.

Mr Jones: Loud and clear?

Penumbra: *sigh* Loud and clear.

Mr Jones: Good. Ok, when the countdown ends, do NOT start.

Penumbra: Why?

Mr Jones: Idk, maybe to add a little sinister side. Only start on my command.

Penumbra: Alright.

The countdown started. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... GO! All drivers started up their cars... except for Penumbra, resulting in the car behind the Marine-Drache bumping into it and making the Drache sink all the way down to last.

Announcer: Huh? One of the pole position racers, Penumbra, did not start her car!

Penumbra waited a good ten seconds.

Mr Jones: Go!

Penumbra pressed the start button on her controller, starting up her Marine-Drache and finally letting it race into the tunnel.

Announcer: After ten seconds, Penumbra finally starts her car up! Unfortunately, she's sunken all the way down to eighth! Let's hope she can make a recovery!

Mr Jones: Turn on fast setting, now!

Penumbra did just that, making her car accelerate past the three cars in front of her.

Announcer: Penumbra's already gaining progress, having turned on fast speed! Meanwhile, Araki Hiromu's far ahead in first, Shigeru's in second, and Alice is in third, but it looks like Kakuei's catching up!

Sure enough, the Rokuyon was trying to catch up to the Monkshood.

Kakuei: Got you in my sights!

Alice: Oh please. You aren't getting to the top three on my watch!

Kakuei: Oh yeah? We'll see about that!

Kakuei pressed his fast button, making his car catch up to the Monkshood. Alice, on the other hand, turned on slow mode, making her car go slower.
