Recap>

Maddie is a little pissed at Jeremy and Elijah(the two we thought could never truly piss her off), Bonnie will be "confronting" Luka, Elena is upset, Damon is flirty, Jules is a pain already, and Stefan is stuck in the tomb with Katherine.

No One Pov.

In the tomb. "So Katherine, how long have you and Maddison been friends?" Stefan asks. Katherine takes a minute to think, "I suppose we became friends when I saved her from a guy following her-" Stefan sits up to face her. "Wait, a guy was following her?" Katherine sits next to him "Yeah, she told me that he wouldn't leave her alone even after she had told him she was 16." Stefan's face pulls in an upset/disturbed way. "Why do you care for her? You've never cared for anyone." Katherine sighs "I do care about people Stefan. You're one of them, it's just when you're this old and been betrayed and lost as much as I have... You forget to show it, you try not to feel it. But that girl has a way of breaking down every wall you put up." Stefan smiles to himself, thinking about all the times Maddie had been there for him. When he had tried to end his existence Maddie didn't walk on eggshells. She told him the truth, that he was being a coward and selfish because he had walked into their lives and got them to care about him. She wasn't going to let him go that easily.

At the Gilbert home, Elena and Maddison make their way down the stairs. "Jenna, what are you doing?" Jenna looks up at them "Oh, perfect timing." She puts a box in Elena's arms. "What is this stuff?" Maddison peeks in the box, "Why are you going through Mom's stuff from the Historical Society?" Jenna sighs "I got roped into helping Mrs. Lockwood." Maddie giggles "Good luck with that mess."

On the other side of the door, Elijah smiles at the sound of his mate's laugh. "And by roped, I mean very excited to participate." Maddie and Elena glance at each other confused. Jenna shuts the door, revealing Elijah. Elena takes in a sharp breath, "Hello, I'm Elijah." Maddison raises an unimpressed eyebrow before looking at Jenna. Jenna smirks at Maddie, see Jenna knows. Jenna knows everything. She has from the beginning.

Flashback>

"Hey sweetie, whatcha drawing?" 12-year-old Maddison blinks for a moment before looking up at her mother. "I dunno mommy." She and her mother look at the pages. Miranda gasps in horror, "Grayson! Grayson come here, now!" Maddison's father comes rushing in. "What? What's happened?" Miranda grabs Maddison's drawings, handing them to her father.

He looks them over, "Sweetheart, can you tell us who you drew?" Maddison nods, "This one is you, Daddy-" she points to the person in the driver seat, "This is Mommy-" to the passenger, "And this is 'Lena." Miranda and Grayson take a moment in the other room. "Grayson, we have to tell her-" Grayson shakes his head, "No, instead of giving them to Jenna, we give them to my brother." "No, Daddy" The two adults look over at Maddison, "Sweetie, you shouldn't be eavesdropping-" Maddison keeps her eyes on her father, ignoring Miranda's half-hearted scolding. "No, needs to be Banana(Jenna). Not Johnny."

"Why not Uncle John?" Maddison's face scrunches slightly, "Dunno, got a feelin', no Johnny." Grayson takes a moment to gather himself, before nodding. "Okay sweetheart. No Uncle John." A week later Jenna was at the house for a visit... Jenna's look on the world changed after that visit. The way she saw her sister, changed too.

End of Flashback<

"Elijah's in town doing research on Mystic Falls," Jenna told them. Maddison rolled her eyes "Yeah I bet he is." Elijah steps forward, holding his hand out "It's a pleasure." Jenna walks back over "So you know you're welcome to stay here, and rummage through this stuff. Or we can help you load it into your car." Elijah glances at her, "Yes, or I can get someone to pick it up tomorrow." "I'd prefer you go through it here. I mean they were our Mother's files, and they're to be mine someday." Maddison grits out.

"O-Or I can go through them here," Elijah stumbles. "Right through here," Maddison leads him through to the dining room. "So why are you here really?" Elijah sighs, taking a seat "You haven't been answering your phone and I hated the thought of you angry with me." Maddison sits in the seat to his right, "Then you shouldn't have lied to me." Elijah lets out a quiet whine. "I just didn't wish for you to be angry that I had gotten involved." Maddison takes a deep breath. "You know what, I'm not angry, a little disappointed that instead of coming clean about a previous scheme you tried to hide it, yes, but I'm not mad anymore."

Instantly Elijah's shoulders relax, "Thank you." Before anything else can be said Maddison has her nose in a Gilbert journal and Elena walks in with Jenna, holding mugs, sugar, and milk. "We made coffee. Elijah we weren't sure how you like it so, we brought the sugar and milk with us." Elijah opens his mouth to answer, but "Milk, one teaspoon sugar." Maddison says absentmindedly. Everyone looks at her as she slowly lifts her head in realization. "Lucky guess?" she tries.

Elijah chuckles at his mate until she kicks his leg under the table. "She's right," Jenna and Elna set everything down. Elijah grabs a plain white mug and the beauty and the beast-themed one(the one he had seen Maddie use before) and made their cups. Elena watched on as he made it just how Maddie likes it, and the way Maddison moved around him. Her shoulders were lax, and her breath even. Maddie seemed so familiar with his presence. So much so that Elena had to wonder just how much time they had spent together. "So Elijah what exactly is it you are looking for?"

Elijah clears his throat, "I thought it was time Elena and I had a little chat." Elena looks at Maddison in alarm, but the younger brunette just sits back. "About what?" Jenna raises a skeptical brow. "You must know, that I mean your family no harm." Jenna chuckles, "I know, you wouldn't want to risk Maddison being angry with you." Elena's head continues to turn between the two as if watching a ping-pong match. "Maddison tells me you killed those vampires that were going to take her to Klaus." Elijah nods with a sheepish look. "Yes, admittedly I might have made a mistake with that one." He looks over at Maddison, who hums.

"If word gets out that a doppelganger exists, there will be vampires lining up, eager, to take Elena to him." Maddison sits up, "But, Nik is already on his way and we'll be giving Elena to him." Jenna smiles at Maddie. "Yes, you told me the plan, admittedly I'm still a bit lost but I trust you to handle it Emmie( pronounced M-e)." Elijah takes a breath, looking away from his mate. "In the beginning, my goal wasn't to break the curse. It was to kill my brother."

Elena leans forward, "Wait, are- are you saying... Klaus is your brother?" Elijah nods, and Elena looks to Maddison. "Did you know?" Maddie nods. "Look we have almost everything we need and then we're all good." "What don't we have?" Elena asks. "A vampire for the sacrifice, and we don't necessarily have the werewolf in our grasp but we will." Elena takes a moment, "Wait, that's why Katherine turned Caroline, and she brought Mason." Maddison nods. After a moment Elijah's phone starts buzzing. Pulling it out, he sees it's not a recognized number. He glances at Maddison, they both seem to think the same thing. "Hello," a few seconds pass "Hello, Elijah."
