Akai was drowning. Drowning in ice-cold water. She choked and flailed but no matter what she did she couldn't get back up to the surface to breathe.

She couldn't even tell where the surface was, everywhere looked deep, blue, and dark with little rays of light glittering as they filtered in from an unknown source. She would have been able to enjoy their beauty too if it wasn't for the fact she was actively dying.

As Akai felt the energy draining from her body as her muscles seemed to finally give out from the exhaustion of her struggling. She noticed the light fade into complete darkness. Suffocating icy darkness.

Soon blue and white light cut through the darkness. Akai turned her head to see where it was coming from. These glowing rings that ranged in color from the brightest white to the darkest blues were cutting through the darkness.

They seemed to all follow a line. Their glow making it easy to follow where they were with her eyes. Slowly but surely they snaked their way towards her. As the lights moved Akai noticed that the lights seemed to pass their colors upwards to the light in front of it like one of those flickering Christmas lights.

One would be dark blue, then the one ahead of it would turn dark blue as the previous one turned a lighter shade of blue, and the same thing would happen to the light ahead of the last one on and on all the way down the line.

It was dazzling to say the least. The light show was almost enough to distract from the fact that they were getting increasingly closer by the second and from the fact she was still drowning.

Once they were practically on top of her they lit up brighter still and Akai was able to see these strange ring lights were on the backs of big black tentacles.

The tentacles were thick having to be at least two feet wide all the way around and so long she couldn't see exactly where they all were coming from.

As the tentacles closed in Akai remembered something. Wait, color changing tentacles that get closer and closer while their target is unable to move, not because they're unable to but because the lights are so distracting... isn't this how cuddle fish hunt??

Just as the panic set in from her realizing the new danger she was in it was already too late to try and get away.

The tentacles' rings lit up in a new color, a bright red, and closed all the way in wrapping themselves tightly around her torso and legs binding her arms to her sides and her legs together. They squeezed the remaining air out of her with their bone crushing power.

She tried to scream as her body was crushed. Her bones snapped and her organs were forced together to the point they could barely work. But all that came out was one last sad air bubble and a bit of blood, no noise. With that, she was dragged to the bottom of the dark abyss by the glowing tentacles.

Akai was soon cast into the nothingness of death. Not even endless darkness now, just nothing. She'd finally died.

Akai finally woke up. Well, sort of. She was awake enough to know she was no longer dreaming. She was still laying on something soft. Probably Hanako's uniform. Though she didn't remember it being this soft. Maybe it's one of those things like when you wake up in the morning and suddenly your bed feels ten times softer then it did at night, making you want to stay in bed all day instead of getting up to endure another grueling day at school or work.

The softness wasn't enough to calm her though. Her eyes flew open and she quickly sat up and took a gasp of air. Air rushed into her mouth this time instead of water. She was no longer drowning!
