I was puffing away when I saw someone in my peripheral view. It was Pha! I stood up, dying to run over and kiss him senseless but I held myself back. He looked abit stunned, like he couldn't believe his eyes. Well technically, I wouldn't blame him. Alot had happened while he was away.

"Auntie, Pha is here." I signalled to her.

"Pha! Come, come." His mother beckoned him over. He came towards, still stunned. I smiled at him, got him to sit in my seat and excused myself to go get him tea. Pha loved my tea. I grasped his hands softly as he sat down, trying to indicate on how much I had missed him. He tightened his grip on me too.

I saw him sit with his mother and I knew  that a long overdue catch up was in the works. Aunty Sik didn't have it easy the last few days...

<flashback>

I had gone to visit Pha's parents the day after he had left for his Medic Camp. When I reached the house, I knocked on the door but no reply. I tried again but zero sound. I was then about to go off thinking no one was home when I heard a loud crashing sound. Ah shit!
I ran around the back of the house. I peeped through the windows to see Aunty Sik, collapsed on the floor, a glass vase laying broken next to her. I banged on the window to get her attention but nothing. Since it was on the ground level, I decided to yolo, smashed my way through the window and leapt into the house. I ran to her and held her gingerly. Her hands were cut, probably from the broken vase. I quickly dialled for the ambulance. Once they arrived, we dashed her to the hospital. Thankfully they got hold of Pha's father.

We found out that she had an epileptic attack, probably caused by fatigue. I sighed and decided to just wait for further results. I didn't leave her side at all, taking absence from school and just monitoring her 24/7. When she came to consciousness, even then I didn't leave her. She was initially resistant to see me but over time, the last few days, we warmed up to each other.

It wasn't easy as she was very snarky but I decided not to play nice any more and showed her the side of me that is usually reserved for Sotus. That's all it took for her to finally listen plus the fact when she found out that I had missed school to look after her, abit hard to still dislike me eh.

When she was discharged, Pha's dad and I brought her back home. She asked me if I could stay over till Pha came back and I agreed. I went back to school again, spent my evenings at home with her and her husband. It was quite nice honestly.

<back to present>
My zoned out moment was interrupted by Pha hugging me. I turned around to have him in my arms. Poor boy was all teary.

"Pha, why are you crying?"
"You, my mom, you really did so much for her.."
"Don't be silly. She's like a mom to me toom plus I had to win her over right?"

Pha cried chuckled at that. I held him tightly, whispering, "I love you, not only you. Your whole family too. I hope to marry you some day you know and that also means I'm marrying your family too. They are like mine."

Pha held onto me even more tightly, sobbing away. I just held onto him tight, never realising then, that one day, this giraffe and I would spin a love story together.
