"Mom, can we get ice cream? Please??" A mauve haired boy begged his mother as he clasped his hands together, desperately wanting the food.
She shook her head to indicate no, her similar coloured hair blew swiftly in the warm summer breeze, "No boys, you've had enough sugar for one day." She replied rather sternly, placing a hand on her hip as she watched the two seven year olds give her puppy dog eyes.
"No." She replied again. She was quite a strict parent, but none the less she cared about her son and his best friend.
"Fine..." Zander huffed, crossing his arms as he let out a deep sigh of frustration and disappointment.
"Why don't we go on another ride instead?" Luke asked, trying to lighten up the mood a little like he always did. "We could go on the train ride, or the bouncy castles or-"
"The Ferris wheel!!" Zander interrupted, placing a hand over Luke's mouth as his big, lavender eyes positioned their gaze towards the massive Ferris wheel in the centre of the fairground. "Can we go on that one, Luke?"
The brunette's stomach dropped at the sight of the massive thing. His golden eyes widened with worry as he gulped with fear, "Uhhh..." He trailed off before his gaze moved from the Ferris wheel and drew back to his childhood best friend. He had a wide smile along his lips and his eyes squinted with joy. Luke could tell Zander really wanted to go on this ride.
But the one thing Zander didn't know, was that Luke was absolutely petrified of heights, and this Ferris wheel was massive. Luke really did not want to go on it, but he just couldn't refuse due to Zander's adorable smile. "Ok." He replied, not concentrating on the word that had just fallen out of his mouth.
"Yay~!" Zander beamed with happiness. He clutched Luke's arm and began walking forward.
"I'll meet you boys here, ok?" Shannon waved towards them, a serious, yet genuine smile forming on her lips.
"Kay." Zander replied, not bothering to look back at his mom; he was to invested in this fairground ride.
As the boys made their way to the line, Luke got a sickening feeling in his stomach again. He felt it twist with worry as his lemon eyes peered up to see the top of the ride. It was so sunny outside and it was so high that he had to squint a little to actually see it.
"Are you excited Luke?!" Zander asked, his voice sounded so eager and excited to get on this ride, "When we get to the top, let's shout something ridiculous!" He giggled, still tightly clinging to Luke's arm as he looked up at his face to find him looking worried about something unknown to him. "Luke...?" He asked, his loud and cheery voice calming down into a more quiet, concerned one, "Are you okay?"
Luke blinked in shock, his mind had been wandering with fear and worry, "Huh?! Oh... Uh yeah, I-I'm fine!" He lied, chuckling nervously.
"Okay then." Zander smiled sweetly, oblivious to what was actually going on in Luke's mind, and turned back to face the line infront of them.
As the line of people gradually got smaller and smaller, Luke began to feel sick. He really didn't want to do this, so he decided to tell Zander the truth, "Uh, hey, Zander?" His voice was more high pitched than usual due to his nervousness as he tried to gain the smaller boy's attention.
"Yeah?" Zander replied. He was still looking all happy and cheery with that beautiful smile that sent Luke head over heels.
Luke blushed as he saw Zander so happy. His smile. His smile was the thing that convinced Luke to keep going, and get on this stupid ride. He couldn't let Zander down, he just couldn't, so he lied again, "Oh- uhh.. " Luke looked away, desperately trying to find something to say, "Uhhh... When we get to the top, what are we gonna shout?" He blurted out, feeling his face burn up with embarrassment.
