Third Person POV

[Jake] Hey David

[David] Hey Jake

[David] Can you call me?

[Jake] Sure

Jake put David's phone number in his phone and waited for them to respond. "Hi Jake," David said. "Hey David," Jake replied, "why did you want me to call you?" David paused. "Because I have something important to tell you," David said. "What is it?" Jake asked. David took a deep breath in. "I think I may be aromantic," David confessed. Jake was shocked. "Thank you for telling me," Jake said in a sincere tone, "you have my full support."

"Thank you," David said wiping their tears. "How did you find out you were aromantic?" Jake asked. "Well," David answered, "since today is Valentine's Day, everyone is hanging out with their romantic partner. My brothers were talking about the things they were gonna do with their girlfriends. For a long time, I was wondering why I didn't feel romantic love for anyone. It always felt like I was weird or there was something wrong with me."

Jake made a small noise as David continued. "Then I did some research to see if anyone was experiencing what I was. I came across an article on being aromantic. When I read the article, the person was experiencing the same things I was feeling. That's where I got the idea that I'm aromantic."

Jake smiled. "I'm glad you found a label that suits you," Jake said. "I am too," David replied. "Are you out to any other people?" Jake asked. "Not yet," David replied, "but I'm scared of how people will react." Jake knew that feeling. Before he got out, Jake was scared to come out on his own. Especially after witnessing all the homophobia that went on at his school. Jake knew keeping David's orientation a secret was probably the safest option for them.

"Do you remember how people reacted when I said I'm non-binary?" David asked. "Sadly yes," Jake replied. "Yeah," David said, "people freaked out and called me names." Jake could hear the sadness in David's voice. It made him want to cry. "I think it's best if you keep this a secret for now," Jake said. "You're right," David replied, "it's for my own good."

"Alright I have to go," David said. "Alright then, bye," Jake replied. "Bye Jake," David said. Jake hanged up the phone. He still needed to pick out something to wear to his date with Kenji. Jake picked out two suits since they were going to a somewhat fancy restaurant. One suit was white and the other one was black. Jake couldn't decided which suit to wear, so he went downstairs and asked his mom.

"Hey mom," Jake asked running downstairs. "What do you need Jake?" Mrs. Xuân said. Jake put the two suits on the couch. "Which suit should I wear?" Jake asked. "What is it for?" Mrs. Xuân asked. "I have a date with Kenji tonight," Jake said blushing, "I want to look my best for him." Mrs. Xuân smiled. "You should save the black suit to wear to your brother's funeral tomorrow."

"Your right," Jake said, "I'll go put the black suit back and get ready." Jake ran back upstairs and put the black suit back into his closet. He got white suit and went to the bathroom to change. Jake put on the white suit and looked at himself in the mirror. Jake never really cared about the way he looked, but he wanted to look good for his first date.

Once Jake was satisfied with the way he looked, he put on his dress shoes and grabbed the keys to his car. "Have a good time on your date," Mrs. Xuân said smiling. "Thank you," Jake replied. Jake ran into the driveway and got into his car. He then started his car and started driving to his date.

And to the best night of his life...
