Kerberos: Moon of pluto

The gravity of the moon felt much less restraining than that of earth, and much more crisp. Ventures in space were a breath of fresh air to Jason Grace, and he was sure that his crewmates felt the same way. The flight on the way to Kerberos hadn't been bumpy, though it had taken months, Jason was confident in his piloting skills, as well as his skills to keep his crew safe.

"Easy Malcolm," Commander Chase reprimanded when his son gripped the ice sample a bit too tightly between gloved fingers, "it's a delicate job."

"I know that dad," Malcolm replied half heartedly, "but enjoy the moment, Annabeth would have died to have gone on this mission with us."

Jason's lips twitched upwards in amusement. He hadn't met the youngest Chase, though he had heard much about her on their long voyage to the edge of the solar system. Jason nearly flinched when commander Chase placed a hand on his shoulder. "This is the furthest any human has traveled in space, how are you feeling?"

Jason didn't even know what he was feeling in the moment, if he was being honest. "This scientific stuff doesn't appeal to me as much as you two, I'm just the pilot."

Malcolm placed the block of ice delicately in the canister, shifting to look at the two men over his shoulder, "Don't be so humble Jason," he smirked, "You'll make the rest of us look ba-a-"

The moon underneath them began to tremor, throwing the three off balance. Jason tensed up, eyes darting over the endless void around them for any clues of what was to come. Could this even be classified as an earthquake if they weren't on Earth?

"Seismic activity?" commander Chase yelled over the rumbling. Jason didn't know what it was, but he didn't want to stick around and find out. He turned to the direction of their spacecraft, herding the Chases to safety.

"We need to get back Now-"

A shadow loomed over them, one so menacing that it nearly made Jason's legs buckle. An unidentified spacecraft, and a titanic one at that. While the other two froze in fear, Jason's heart jackrabbited in his chest as he hauled the two by the collar behind him like they were lost kittens.

"Move!" The voice that escaped his mouth didn't sound like his own, it was shrill and broken, though in the end it was no use. Out of the corner of his eye, a bright purple ray shot from the head of the ship, and the ground of Kerberos peeled away underneath their feet.

It was a matter of seconds before they were swallowed whole by the purple beam.
