"This is where it all began..."

The princess stood in front of a small, colourless flame, Sonic by her side. She looked upon its light as it shone in her eyes. The flames of Solaris, the same light that separated from the dark and engraved into her soul. But this is where it started. "Who knew such a tiny flame could bring such devastation?"
She stepped forward, taking the small flame into her hands. "If we put out this flame, Solaris will never exist. And we'll never have to worry about the Flames of Destruction, right?" Sonic looked upon her, questioning her motive. But she was right. Yet the realisation of their bond washed upon them both: if Solaris never existed, then they would never meet. Their stories would go on without each other, and never intercept. But Elise didn't care anymore. She didn't care what happened to the world.
She looked down at Sonic, who smiled at her.
"Just smile," he told her without having to say a word. Just smile...

And she smiled. She smiled as her lips lowered to the flames. The flames that she didn't even feel. And she blew them out.

Solaris, and everything that happened because of it, were gone.

Darkness. A never ending void of it. He couldn't move, he couldn't feel. He had no caporal form, yet even he couldn't manipulate his own darkness. He was just... apart of it now. He had fused with something, but it wasn't Iblis. Not what he wanted. He did vaguely remember getting what he wanted, as the memory of the devastating flames filled his mind. It made him want to smile and laugh. Yet he could not. Darkness cannot speak, darkness cannot smile. Darkness cannot feel.
He had never felt. In the entirety of his existence. He had never once felt emotions other than hatred and maniacal happiness. But this didn't matter. He was nothing now.

Just a void.

Floating endlessly.

Just ten more years added to his pointless life.

Dancers in yellow dresses spun across the deck of a huge boat, the presence of the barge delighting those who watched. On this boat was Princess Elise, smiling and waving at her people. Tonight they were gathered to thank the sun of Soleanna, worshipping the flames and eternal light gifted by it. This was something they had done for generations, hoping to forever keep peace. As this festival continued on, nobody had noticed a robot resembling a little girl enter the crowd. She snuck around, looking for something she could not locate. She did not seem desperate, in fact she displayed no emotion whatsoever. It was like she were being piloted.
She reached the front of the crowd, staring at her target. The princess. She found what she was looking for.

Just at that moment, everything went to hell. Robots surrounded the area, blocking off innocent civilians. The girl was snapped out of her controlled state and she began to panic, looking around frantically.
"Oh no... not again!" she ran off. A loud, course laughter swept through the area, causing Elise to look up at the invader.
He was a platypus, sporting a rather dapper looking tuxedo. He pushed up his glasses with his gloved hand, presenting a round orange gemstone that was imbedded into the back. He smirked.
"You must be Princess Elise..."

It wasn't difficult. Yeah there was some weird blue hedgehog who picked a fight, but he easily escaped with the power of the warp topaz. The platypus smiled as he observed the princess, sitting hopelessly on the lab floor.
"Your obsession..." she muttered, "it's insane..." This caused him to laugh.
"Now what's so insane about living in my dead idol's lab, dear?" Obviously, everything. But Elise didn't respond. She didn't have to, as he clearly did not care.

He held the small blue gem in his hand, tossing it from index to ring finger. "Oh, little red-head riding hood, what shiny gems you have! All the better to power my precious topaz." He let out a chuckle and walked over to her, bending over and waving the chaos emerald in front of her. "Now if only you'd tell me where you keep the rest of them... maybe I'll keep you in one piece."
"I told you already, I don't know!" she burst out, causing him to recoil a little. He frowned, brushing his bill.
"Sweetie pie, don't spit. It makes my fur go all spiked."
"But aren't you aquatic—" Suddenly, she felt a strong grip on her wrist. Elise was yanked towards her captor, who slid a thumb and a forefinger over one of her own fingers.

"Your silence is only shortening your lifespan, little girl..." the platypus growled, "The only time you should open your mouth is when it benefits me." He began to play around with her finger, bending it forwards then straightening it again. He laughed as he did this, treating it like some game. This sent a shiver down the princesses spine. "Now... take this as a warning..." His whole hand slowly gripped around the finger, and within a few moments, the room filled with a sickening SNAP and a blood curdling scream.

Sonic ran. He didn't know where he was going, he just ran. Something in him was guiding him, it was probably the chaos emeralds. He received a ping on the new communicator Tails got him.

"Is it working?" the device spoke. "Can you hear me?"
"Loud and clear, buddy!" Sonic called out in response.
"Good, because my devices are sensing something."
"Is it bad?"
"Probably..." Tails' voice quivered as he glanced over at his computers. The level of power was the same as the chaos emeralds. But something was making them stronger... something he knew nothing about.

Sonic shuddered at the single worded response, and sped up. Something bad meant that this new guy he met was up to something, and if he were following the chaos emeralds, that meant even worse.

"Get away from the emeralds, duckhead!" Sonic yelled at the enemy. They just laughed.
"Yelling at me won't stop me from getting what I want. Your logic is childish." This angered the blue hedgehog, though he didn't show it.
"Will a fight stop you?"
The platypus shook his head.
"You clearly have no idea who you're talking to," he slowly removed the topaz from his glove, "Address me as Doctor Starline, or to put it simply..." He placed the topaz into a device. The machine came to life as the screen flashed various colours, all the colours of the chaos emeralds. The enemy looked back at Sonic with a smirk.
"Your doom."

The world shook, tossed and turned. Sonic was hurled to the floor by the force, and so was Elise. The two made eye contact for a split second before a rift split open between them. Sonic tried to yell out, but soon enough he was dragged into the rift, the world he once knew stripped away from him in an instant. Doctor Starline watched him, roaring with laughter. But it soon faded away. And Sonic heard nothing.
