Chapter 3 - Shackles of Guilt

Irina's Pov:

"Who is it?"

I looked through the peephole again but there was no one. I turned around and picked my service gun from the drawer of the shelf and silently walked towards the door.

I stood closely with the wall with my back facing it and my gun ready.... I slowly opened the door with my free hand....I was on high alert so as soon as the door opened I put my gun up, but there was no one.   

I slowly leaned to peep but there was nobody out there, I went outside and checked the yard but there was still no one...

I thought that maybe I was just stressed out and hallucinating about the noises.....but I was wrong...

I started to get back into the house but before I could close the door, the door swung open with great force and I saw two people come in and before I could raise my gun to shoot, they hit my head with a rod.....

Next thing I know, everything started to black out with a throbbing headache and I was getting dizzy and with another hit on my head I was knocked unconscious.....

Karasuma's Pov:

It's strange, Irina's department is not able to reach her. Usually she'd pick up and come for the mission as it was an emergency. I called the security but he did not pick up.

I called Irina this time and what I feared the most happened.... She didn't pick up the call...

I got worried and informed the officials about this and me with a unit of forces headed off to my house. When we reached there the security guard was knocked unconscious and bleeding as his face was horribly bruised, when we entered the house Irina was nowhere to be found, we started searching the house for evidence, but there was none except for Irina's service gun dropped at the door. 

I went to the couch only to find Irina's diary which I kept in my study laying there with a pen still open as if she was still writing it...

I started to read it and what I read was not what I was expecting....It said,

''Karasuma was in a lot of stress yesterday. For the first time he shouted on me like that...

heh...I was a bit surprised by that but I know he didn't mean it.

I know I am thinking too much but--''

I felt a wave of guilt surge through me, but focused on my work of finding evidence and finding Irina...

"Sir! We didn't find any evidence of a terrorist trespassing in the upper floor!"

"What? No evidence?"

"Yes sir! The upper floor is untouched! Every Room is neat as if there was never a trespasser in the house!"

"How is that possible? If they wanted the documents, they could've surely checked the study as well as the whole house... Did you check my study?"

"Yes sir! There was nothing unusual!"

If they didn't wanted the documents then what is it that they want?
Do they plan on taking Irina hostage and then blackmailing the government?
If they took Irina hostage, then there must be other people who are hostages as well!
What do I do? I have to think carefully! 

I know I should not involve my personal feelings in the mission, but...it's my wife I'm talking about!
I have to think carefully!

"Sir? Are you okay?"

I was pulled out of my thoughts by the question.

"Yes... I'm fine.", or so I said, but I'm sure I looked pretty worried...

"Akira Sato reporting Sir! There are orders to bring you back to the head quarters as they have some important information to share! I will tell you the details on the way...I brought your car sir!...
Please come!....We'll find Irina mam, sir... don't worry..."

"Yes... let's go.."

Sato, My informer...He has great contacts...should I ask him about Irina? He must be knowing...He also worked for Irina several times in many missions.... Yes! he must be knowing--

"Sir, We found the location of the terrorist base! We can head there... but with proper planning It will take at least four days or a week... we have to ready a cyber team and call for our best hackers... we'll also have to call the emergency special squad...
You sent them on a mission, so they'll have to finish it fast before tomorrow or day after tomorrow... an agent is ready to deliver the message to the squad!

If anything, it's your squad of soldiers and hackers that can handle them!..."

"Yes, alright! let's go with that... Manage everything until I return from the meeting..."

"Yes Sir!"

"Sato..."

"Yes Sir?"

"I'm Grateful...."

Irina's Pov:

I woke up with a throbbing headache and looked at my surroundings to see that I'm in a dark cell, the only light that came in was from the bars of the cell.... there was a bed in the small room and a side table above which water was placed...

I tried to move but winced in pain as I felt too weak to move, I didn't have any strength in my legs...and that's when I realized the situation I was in...

My wrists and ankles were chained to the bed... not tight enough to not let me move but not loose so that I won't go far away from the bed...

I was still looking around my surroundings when a man with two bodyguards came in...
He sure looked intimidating...

"Hello! If I'm not wrong, Irina Jelavich? The famous, beautiful and dangerous assassin....is now working for the government and military? and cherry on top...is also married to the chief of military?...Impressive coming from you, huh?"

Who is this man? I don't know him... how does he know so much about me?

"Well, well, Irina Karasuma... you can trust me that whatever I'll tell you will be the truth... so listen to me, okay?"

"WHO ARE YOU?!--"

He slapped me across the face hard enough for the pain to remain for several minutes, and came impossibly closer to my face...

"When I say listen to me, you listen to me and shut your damn mouth! Don't you dare ask any questions and interrupt while I'm speaking"

He shouted on my face as I backed away from him... all I could think about was getting out of there...

"Well then, Irina-san, let's take you somewhere else, as I need to tell you a lot of things about the situation you are in right now..."

He put a collar around my neck and smiled holding the leash...

"Shall we go?"

The third part with sort of cliffhanger...😶
