"Aren't you glad the president banned genetically editing human beings?" Day asks as we walk side by side in Downtown Inside, shopping for a gift for my Mom's birthday.
"Yeah, I mean it took some time but, we're finally seeing change."
"I know! It's great!" Kaede says with her mouth full of soft pretzels, as she runs up to us.
"Let's hope it stays that way," Day adds.
"Should we split up and scour each store for a good present for Mom? We've been looking for a present since 2." I ask.
"Yeah, sounds good. I'll go by myself towards the left and you two can go together towards the right. Let's meet back here in half an hour," Day explains.
We split up and Kaede and I can't find anything! There are no gifts that work for my Mom! We meet back in the center of the shopping area and Day has his hands behind his back and a sly smile on his face.
"I found something good!" He shouts as he pulls out a small jewelry box.
"Soooo... Show us!" From the box he pulls out the most hideous pair of earrings. The purple and green colors of the earrings clash, and they are shaped like giant triangles. Kaede and I burst out laughing.
"What?!" Day shouts, "what's so funny?!"
"Nothing." I say between laughs, as I kiss him-my way of saying thank you for trying, but... no. "Thank you, it's perfect."
I decide to go with it and tell my Mom that it was from Day-no help from me or Kaede at all. She'll understand. We leave the Downtown Inside and walk into my Mom and I's apartment, where my Mom is waiting to start the party.
"Hey Mom! We're back with a present!"
"Aww thank you guys! You didn't have to get me anything!" We hand the gift to her and she opens it with a giant smile plastered on her face. "Oh, wow! It's umm.. Beautiful! Thank you!"
"Yeah no problem, I picked it out myself!" Day explains.
"It's so nice that all of us are together and happy." My Mom smiles-clearly she has no other good things to say about the gift.
"Let's just hope it stays that way," I add.Authors note:
That's it! I'll add a sequel if this gets very popular and you guys request it. Thanks for reading!

Ciencia FicciónI wrote this in 7th grade, so there are a few cringey parts but I do think it's really good other wise. Also, there was a word limit so it's a fairly short read. This is a dystopian novel about genetically editing humans with a fair portion of roman...
