*a few days later- at a fundraiser*

"How did I allow you to rope me into another party," I say.

"Cause I'm just that charming."

"Yeah, you keep telling yourself that," I chuckle.

"Well, I'm gonna go get us a drink. Just wait here. I'll be right back."

"Okay," I nod. He walks off, and I hear a clinking. I turn around to see Lionel on the stage.

"I'd like to thank you all for coming tonight. I hope you're having a splendid time. And that you've had a chance to reconnect with some old friends. Right now, though, I'd like to introduce you to someone who I hope will be a new friend. A valuable new friend. Someone I'm sure you'll be glad to have on your side. Ladies and gentleman, may I introduce to you our Kansas state senator and your future United States senator, Martha Kent. We all clap, and she steps forward.

"Thank you very much." Suddenly, an arrow flies past my head and lands in the electricity box. It crackles, and the lights go out.

I look over at my mom to see a hooded man run toward her and grab the necklace from her neck. "Thank you." He disappears into the crowd, and I clench my fists.

"Hey," I shout, pushing through everyone.

I run out of the room to see him.

"Give me the necklace and nobody gets hurt." He chuckles, shaking his head. I run toward him, but he wraps his arm around me, looking down at me. "Give me the necklace," I say breathlessly.

"You forgot to say please."

He suddenly kicks my feet out from under me, before shooting a grappling arrow up the shoot that leads to the roof.

I take a deep breath, looking down at the necklace I was able to snag from him.

*later*

"I couldn't ID the guy, but he didn't exactly stick around to chat," I state.

"You told Mr. Luthor that you almost caught the guy. Yet you expect me to believe you didn't see anything?"

"Look, Lionel Luthor pays SafeTex, what a gazillion dollars for personal security? So don't blame me if you let a boy scout with an archery badge crash his party," I hiss.

"Okay. I think Miss Kent's made her point. Wouldn't you say," Oliver says, walking over to him. "She'll call you if she remembers anything." I smirk at him. He glances at Oliver. "Evening." He leaves, and I roll my eyes. Once he's gone, Oliver speaks. "So what aren't you telling him?"

"Well, I'm not a reporter but... I know someone who is. Lois Lane. I think I just nabbed the story of her life," I admit, standing up. "He's not the only one who walked away with a serious party favor," I add, holding up the ring.

"Mr. Queen," I hear a man question. Oliver turns around, and my brows furrow when I see Clark walking in.

"Mom told me you were here."

"Clark, it's almost midnight."

"Clark? You're her brother," Oliver questions, walking toward him.

"You must be Oliver Queen," he nods, as they shake hands.

"Yeah," he nods, chuckling. "This is funny, it's just, you know, the way Callie talked about you I thought you were gonna be a little bit more--"

"Hey, it's late. You should get home," I suggest.

"A little more what?"

"Well..."

"Of a geek?"

"Well... you know, I'm not the best at describing people," I shrug.

"The only reason I'm here is to get that necklace back. Last thing we need is for our mom to be indebted to Lionel Luthor."

"Yeah, well, you know, I mean, she should have thought of that before she accepted his help with her fundraising. Oh, and if you're really championing the cause of pick-pocketed billionaires you might wanna add a few more to the list."

"What are you saying Lionel Luthor is not the only victim?"

"Over a dozen of Metropolis' who's whos have been hit recently," Oliver admits.

"Good, then there's some leads."

"Well, not if all the victims were as uncooperative as Lionel Luthor. Don't you find it interesting that he never called the police?"

"Okay, if you boys are done marking your territory, I have a little delivery for Lois. Goodnight, boys and play nice."
