After Clark is gone, I take a seat at his desk. "How'd you sleep last night?"
"Fine," he states.
"Are you telling me the truth or are you lying?"
He looks over at me, smiling weakly. "The truth," he assures me.
"Good," I nod. "So... why are you so sure that Lex has something to do with their deaths? Weren't you guys friends in school?"
"Not... exactly. Look, I was a different person back then. I was kind of an asshole," he admits.
"And..."
"Me and those guys bullied Lex."
"Oh."
"Lex hated them."
"But is he capable of murder?"
"Well...," he starts, trailing off.
He really looks like he doesn't wanna talk about it right now.
"You know what, you don't have to tell me. I'll take your word for it," I cut him off. He nods. "I'm just... kind of worried that if he does have something to do with it, you might be next."
"I'll be okay," he says.
"You don't know that."
"Even if I am, I am perfectly capable of handling myself."
"Maybe, but just to be on the safe side, I'm gonna stick around until whoever is behind this is caught," I say.
"You know what I think," he smirks, walking over to me.
"What do you think?"
"I think you just want an excuse to be around me," he says, spinning the chair around to face him.
"I don't need an excuse," I state.
"Oh, you don't?"
"Nope."
*that night*
I wake up suddenly, sweat rolling down my face.
That was... horrible.
I dreamt that I had an episode, and I was with Oliver, and I...
I don't even wanna think about it anymore.
I slide out of the guest bed, leaving the room. I walk down the hall when I see Oliver standing on his balcony with a glass in his hand. I sigh, walking toward the glass doors and sliding one open. I shut it behind me, and he glances back at me. "Can't sleep," I question, walking toward the railing.
"No," he shakes his head. "Why are you up?"
"I had a nightmare," I admit.
"What about?"
"Just... It was nothing."
"You sure?"
"Yeah... I mean, it could never happen, but nightmares aren't supposed to be logical, right," I shrug.
"Yeah, I guess, but if you do wanna talk about it, you can."
"I know," I nod.
*the next morning*
"Is Lana gonna be okay," Oliver asks.
Apparently, Lana and Lex were attacked by... something last night in his mansion.
"I think so. Looks like you're wrong about Lex being the one behind the attacks," Clark sighs.
"Unless he orchestrated this one to throw off suspicion," Oliver suggests.
"If Lex was the only one hurt, then I'd probably think the same thing," Clark admits.
"He loves Lana too much to risk her life," Oliver says. I glance at Clark to see that he looks sad.
"Look these attacks aren't random," I say, making him sigh, slowly turning away from us.
"Lois seems to think it may have something to do with a kid you went to school with back at Excelsior," Clark adds.
"Duncan," I ask.
"Yeah," Clark nods.
"It's not Duncan," Oliver states.
"How can you be sure," I question, making him turn around to face me.
"Because Lex and I killed him ten years ago..."
"What?"
He begins to tell the story of Duncan and how him and his friends bullied Lex and Duncan. Then, one day Lex and Duncan caught them stealing answers to a test.
Apparently, Lex and Duncan felt differently about how to deal with the situation, and it resulted in them fighting, and Lex beat the shit out of Duncan.
He continues by telling us that Duncan was in shock from all the cuts and bruises and blood and... he backed out into the road and got hit by a car.
Oh my god... That is... traumatizing.
I feel so bad for Oliver. He probably feels like shit for treating the poor kid like that. I can tell he's remorseful.
"Duncan suffered massive brain injuries," Oliver sighs.
"Is there anything else that you haven't told me," Clark asks.
"Just the denouement. Lionel Luthor sweeping in with the best doctors in the world... to save Duncan," Oliver admits.
"Lionel?"
"I thought it was an act of kindness. Now that I'm older, I realize it was just an act. Lionel was just trying to cover up what happened between Lex and Duncan. Trying to cover up the stink off the Luthor name," he sighs.
"How do you know all about this?"
"He got the whole story from Lex. Duncan was on scholarship. His parents couldn't afford a Band-Aid, let alone a team of neurosurgeons. So Lionel promised to take care of the whole thing," Oliver continues.
"As long as everyone kept quiet."
"Not that it mattered. Duncan died two days later," he sighs, as I walk over to him.
"Okay, it was an accident. It just happened," I sigh.
"No. No, I told myself that same lie for years. The truth is all of us might as well have pushed him out in front of that car. Alden, Geoffrey, Lex... me. We all killed Duncan Allenmeyer," Oliver shakes his head, sadly. He slowly sits down, staring at the floor.
"What about his family? If they believed you killed him, one of them might be behind this," Clark suggests.
"I thought about that, but the only relative I could find was his mother."
"Where's she?"
"Grandville cemetery. She passed away a month ago."
"There must be someone else. Someone else you may have missed."
"I don't know," Oliver admits, shaking his head. "The only one who had contact with Duncan's family was Lionel. I'm not exactly high on his buddy list. Not a good chance of him talking to me."
