*Requests : This is my own original idea and it is not a request. Max and Lucas are not dating in the au and are simply best friends. I hope you all like this one!

Max raced to put her clothes on, stepping out of her bathroom and spinning cheerfully in order to show her best friend. Seated on her floor, Lucas's breath caught in his throat as he looked her up in down. It wasn't unusual for him to be over since the two were practically joint at the hip by now. They'd been best friends since kindergarten, instantly clicking when Max moved into the house next door to Lucas.

As they got older, the duo only grew closer and closer, causing many to question their friendship status. They would only push the question away, saying they were like siblings to each other when in reality, they still couldn't deny the tension between them. As kids, it was easier to force the feelings aside but now, they were older. Way, way older. And getting older comes with growth... Meaning puberty.

Being sixteen and all, they couldn't decline the slight feeling of sexual attraction between each other. It was more than obvious to everyone except them. I mean Lucas was quite the attractive guy as he grew. His looks developed and he got taller and more muscular. He played for the school's basketball team and was more or less part of the popular clan. This meant he was used to being around girls. More specifically, girls who liked him.

Max would often watch from afar, biting her nails as some girl tried to convince Lucas to go out with her. Little did she know, they were all useless to him. Only because none of them were her. Alongside Lucas, Max grew older as well. Her face slimmed, her body developed and Lucas as well as every other teen boy in town couldn't help but drool over her. She wasn't necessarily prevalent but everyone knew of her, mostly because of Lucas.

People would try things with her, leading her on and hurting her. Last year, one guy had tried to get with her at a party. He'd ended the night with a broken jaw because of Lucas. It was safe to say Max was no longer a party person. Things like this caused Lucas to be more protective over her, forcing him to grow excessively jealous of any other guy around her as he believed they too would do bad things to Max. He swore he wouldn't let anyone hurt her while on his watch.

However, in some odd way, all of this was platonic. "How do I look?" Max asked, straightening her skirt with her hands. Earlier in the week, while in the crowd at one of Lucas's basketball games, a boy in their grade, Daniel had asked her out. After years of waiting for Lucas to make a move, Max finally caved and accepted Daniel's offer. It was time to move on, since clearly, Lucas was never going to need her as she needed him.

He quickly looked away, his cheeks turning a deep red. Though she did look amazing, she didn't look like herself. She looked like all the other girls in their grade. More specifically, the ones who would try to get in his pants at parties or the type who slept around with half the boys. Lucas most definitely did not want Max to turn into one of them. He shook his head scoffing as he ran a hand through his hair.

Seeing his reaction, Max crossed her arms as she sat across from him on her bed. "What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" Lucas shrugged, "You... You don't look like you," Max mocked his words as she personally thought she looked good. If he didn't want to go out with her then he could at least be supportive. "Well, what if this is what I want to be?" He snorted, "A slut?" She shook her head, her eyes filling with tears. "Really?"

She pursed her lips, "How would you even know if this is me or not?" "Because I know you! Better than anyone actually," He continued. Max sighed, her head in her hands. She couldn't believe he was doing this right now. She had spent hours getting ready and he was doing this. She sighed, "Lucas," "No, listen to me!" He yelled frustrated, "What the fuck is this? What the fuck are you doing?" She sniffled, wiping a tear that had somehow managed to slide down her face.

She held back a cry, turning to leave the room, "I thought I looked nice," Lucas immediately felt guilty as his anger and jealousy had taken over. He followed her out, his voice shaking as he tried to apologize, "No, no- I'm sorry, you do look nice, you look really-" Max insulted enough, interrupted, "Save it, Lucas! You said what you thought, I get it." She'd accepted the fact that he didn't like her a long time ago, he was just making it harder for her now.

"No, no, Max I-" Tears pooled over Max's blue eyes, ruining the makeup she'd just spent hours perfecting. "Just stop! Why do you always have to ruin everything good for me?!" Trying to leave the room, Lucas blocked the door, not letting her pass. She groaned, stepping back, "You are the most selfish person I've ever met!" Lucas shook his head, unaffected by her rude words, "Max please, let me explain," She tried to push him out of the way to get through but sadly, he was much stronger than her.

"No, get out of my way, I'm going to be late!" He listened, moving out of the way as she ran down the stairs to her main floor. She scrambled looking for her purse, "Go fuck yourself!" As she opened the door to leave, Lucas cursed at himself hoping this sentence wouldn't end or possibly ruin their whole friendship. His voice desperate, he yelled after her, "Max, don't go!" Max turned back wiping her eyes. She stood by her car stubbornly, "Why should I listen to you?"

"Because," "Why?" She interrogated, getting closer. "Look, I didn't mean what I said, I'm just-" Max cut him off, their faces inches apart. "Say it." "You know why, Max," He mumbled, his words barely audible. "Say it." She yelled louder, trying to conceal the smirk growing on her face. "Fuck, I love you!" Max's eyes softened, surprised by Lucas's confession. "You love me?" she questioned, searching his eyes for sincerity. Lucas nodded, his vulnerability exposed.

Conflicted, Max replied, "You can't just say that after what happened." "I know, Max. I'm sorry, I messed up, but I can't lose you," Lucas pleaded. She sighed, torn between anger and emotion. "Actions speak louder than words," Max whispered, her gaze lingering on him. "I know, I was jealous and-" "You mean it?" She asked, a mix of disbelief and joy in his voice. Lucas's eyes widened, hope and relief flooding his expression. He nodded, a small smile breaking through her lips.

"You can't say that shit anymore." Max asserted, her tone serious. "Yes, yes, okay, Max, I'll do whatever it takes," Lucas vowed, determination in his eyes. Max groaned at herself, giving in and kissing him hard on the lips. Daniel could wait, Lucas could not. As they pulled away, Max smirked, "Daniel's going to wonder where I am," Lucas frowned, "Let him." She chuckled, correcting herself from earlier, "I love you too Lucas. I've always loved you, Lucas."
