Beomgyu had fallen asleep reading a book on his chair, and now he couldn’t wake up. The room was still dark, the only light coming from the television screen. He tried to open his eyes but found they were glued shut, and he couldn’t find it within himself to move. His entire body felt heavy.
Finally, he stretched his arms and yawned, then opened his eyes. It hurt. And so did his neck and his head.
He put the book aside, then reached over with his right hand and tried to turn off the TV. He rose to his feet, taking one cigarette from the packet and grabbing the lighter before going to the balcony to smoke, then he could lay down and go back to sleep in peace.
The cold air hit him as soon as he stepped outside. That woke him up a little bit, enough that he realised just how tired he really was. He lit the cigarette, took a long drag of it, closed his eyes and blew out a stream of smoke.
As the smoke settled in front of him, he looked around and scanned his surroundings. There wasn't anything interesting. No stars, no moon, no nothing. Just the city lights and distant streetlights.
A suspicious silence had descended upon the world, something that rarely happened at this time of night. It didn't feel comfortable, instead, it felt like someone had set off an alarm or a bomb. There was no sight of even a single guard patrolling the perimeter which made Beomgyu curious about where they were, and why they weren't doing their job properly.
Suddenly, his eyes caught sight of a dark figure sleeping on the tree at his window. A silhouette that he would recognise anywhere. Dark Eagle...
Beomgyu gritted his teeth in annoyance as his hands gripped the top railing of his balcony. He should have expected it, but still. He really thought the guy would leave him alone, but he was still there. Why? Did he just fall asleep while watching her daughter through the window? Or was it something else entirely?
Beomgyu watched the silhouette sleep for a few more seconds, his thoughts running wild inside his mind before he turned around to storm into the room, rushing to the nightstand where he was keeping his handgun. As quietly as possible he grabbed hold of the weapon and went back to the balcony. Anger grew within him with every step, threatening to consume him whole. The image of the man sleeping peacefully on a tree bench was seared into his mind.
It was the worst kind of torture he'd ever experienced. How dare he come to his house like some kind of creepy stalker?! If he wanted to stay here and watch someone through a window like a creep, then Beomgyu didn't give a damn about what he was trying to do.
So he loaded his gun and aimed at the stranger's masked face, waiting for the first movement so he could pull the trigger. He held his breath, staring unblinkingly at him. He seemed too calm, almost peaceful. He had no idea what he was thinking. What exactly did he want from this situation? Was he crazy? Did he seriously think he could get away with doing whatever he pleased?
Beomgyu gripped tighter. He needed to end this. Right then and there. Sooner than later. He'd kill him if Dark Eagle didn't do it. But before he could fire, the silhouette finally moved, taking Beomgyu by surprise.
Making eye contact with him, the panic started to settle in Dark Eagle's black eyes. For a split second, there was fear visible in them, but it disappeared as quickly as it appeared, because then he briskly jumped down the tree, causing Beomgyu instantly jump over his balcony railings and run towards him.
"Hey!", he yelled out, shooting in his direction, but Dark Eagle didn't stop moving. Instead, he ran straight ahead and climbed up the fence with ease to make a sprint for safety. Beomgyu quickly ran outside through the door, running in the right direction where he saw Dark Eagle running as fast as he could.
