A/N: Buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride
It had been a week, and I still hadn't been able to open Dally's letter. It was the same for Ponyboy, but with Johnny. We had talked about reading each others first, but I just felt like it was an invasion of privacy to read Johnny's letter to Ponyboy. Pony said the same to me. We decided that today, we were gonna read them.
I was sitting on the ground of Ponyboy's room, the only thing making noise was the buzzing of his ceiling fan and the movement of my right leg bouncing up and down. Pony walked in quietly, shaking his arms in a goofy way making me smile, and for a second, letting me forget about the sadness and sorrow of the past few days.
He had just taken a shower, so when he nestled his head onto my shoulder, he smelt of soap and lavender. I liked it, it calmed my nerves.
"I changed my mind, can ya read mine first?" I asked, looking up at the boy with the slicked back, wet hair. He looked at me to see if I was being serious, and I nodded in reassurance. Once he was done, he looked at the ceiling and stayed quiet.
"It's a thinker." He replied with a soft expression, taking a second to clear his mind again to open Johnny's letter.
I took the letter back, and read it myself.
Dear Little Shit <3,
Don't let me stop you from doing or accomplishing the things you want in life, and don't let no one tell you what to do. You're pretty feisty, so it ain't gonna happen, but I'm just reminding you. I've decided that my home wasn't here, but maybe somewhere else. Thank you for being the best part of my life, and letting me watch you grow into the human being you are now. It was truly an honor, but it's time to fly on your own. The keys to Dark Horse are with Soda. I asked him to get the car from the hospital and to park it at his house. I trust you with her, don't let me regret it. If you ever want to talk, I promise I'll be listening, kid. This lonesome town would be even more lonely without ya. Hang in there kid, for me? I know I'm your stupid, overprotective, Italian brother, and I sure as hell shouldn't be telling you this. I've known for a long time, and there ain't nothing I can do about it now.
Save a horse, ride a c̶o̶w̶b̶o̶y Pony :)
This ain't goodbye, it's see ya later. Love ya.
-Dally
After I finished reading, I rested my head on Pony's shoulder and read Johnny's letter. Pony was a pretty slow reader, so we finished at the same time. "Damn that was deep." Ponyboy and I said simultaneously and giggled after.
"Pony you could practically write a book about your life, it's crazy, man. Okay wait- it would start out like," I tried my best to mimic Ponyboys voice and accent, "When I stepped out into the bright sunlight-" I stopped there, not knowing how to continue.
