Sadie's POV
I hear my phone chime as I'm halfway done with getting ready. Grabbing my phone, I see it's a text. It's Ronaldo, asking me if I was ready. In a panic, I check the time and it's an hour before seven.
God he gave me a heart attack.
I text him saying I was almost ready and was going to get Lars and head to Funland Arcade. I put my phone down, and look in to my mirror. Sighing, I adjust my shirt, not knowing if I'm in to it or not. I give up, and take it off.
Why is this so hard?
Groaning, I slip on a pair of ripped jeans. While digging in my closet, I see a cute teal shirt. Slipping it on, I check myself in the mirror one last time.
That'll do
Before heading up the stairs, I grab a jean jacket and put it on. Knowing it's winter time, I'll probably get cold later in the night. While heading up the stairs, I begin hearing the tv blaring an old sitcom. Opening the door, I hear the audience laugh track, and my mothers laughter follows. "You enjoying your show?" I ask her, closing the door behind me when I get to the top of the stairs.
"Meh," She says, "I've seen this show a thousand times, I knew it was coming." I chuckle softly, and head to the living room. I see her in her recliner that's as old as I am. My mom turns to me, and shows a wide smile. "You look nice, Sadie." I smile, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Thanks mom." I go to her, and sit on the arm rest of the recliner.
"So you excited for this double date?"
"It's not a double date, it's just us all hanging out."
"Oh..." She pauses, "But, aren't Jenny and Ronaldo together?"
"Yeah," I say, "But it's still all us just hanging out again." My mom tsks softly,
"Sadie, sweetie, why won't you give Lars a second chance." I shrug,
"It's...complicated, mom." All she does is nod. She doesn't try and pry anymore, so I get up and check the time on my phone.
It's almost time to meet at the arcade.
"I'm heading out, mom." As I start to leave, my mom yells for me.
"Sadie?"
"Yeah?"
"Please text me if you're staying at Lars house, next time." I totally forgot about texting her about that last night.
She must've been so worried.
"Got it, mom. Love you." With that, I leave my house.
*** *** *** ***
I find myself stopped in front of Lars house, unsure of what to do. I could easily ask him to walk with me to Funland Arcade, but I could also just meet him there. My feet feel frozen in place.
Maybe I should just go.
Before I can walk off, his front door opens. He steps out, and he wears black jeans with black boots. He wears an edgy band t-shirt and a black leather jacket. As I look at his face, he also put on his old glow in the dark skull gauges. His hair is curler than usual too. I bite the inside of my cheek, feeling embarrassed as he looks at me with surprise.
"Sadie?" He asks, "Were you waiting for me?"
"Uh," I start to say. "Y-Yeah!"
God I feel so stupid.
Where did my confidence from earlier today go?
Lars steps off his porch and gets closer to me. "You didn't have to wait for me."
"No, it's okay, I didn't mind waiting." We both stand there awkwardly, not sure what to do. I want to hug him, and hold him close. But another part of me wants to just go back home.
"Do you...want to go?" I look up at him,
"Yeah, we can get moving!" We both then begin walking in the direction of Funland Arcade. We barely speak as we walk. Ever since last night, I'm so aware of this being the old Lars I dated, how intimate we used to be, and how much he hurt me.
