Sadie's POV
We all sit at a booth inside Fish Stew Pizza. It isn't as busy as it used to be, but that makes this better. Jenny and I share a plain cheese pizza, while the boys share an anchovies pizza. We all chat and laugh at old stories together. It felt good to catch up with Jenny. She actually changed a lot since I last talked to her. Turns out she still talks to Buck and Sour Cream, which surprises me a bit. But since they've gotten older they don't hang out as much.
I can't believe we're all grown up, now.
We laugh at another story, and I feel eyes on me. Looking up, Lars is looking at me. I feel myself get flustered, so I look away.
Why is he looking at me like that?
I glance outside, and see the stars are shinning brightly once more. I really missed the night sky of Beach City.
"God, I'm full." Ronaldo groans, rubbing his stomach. Their plate of pizza is now completely empty. Lars burps, which makes me chuckle. Jenny stands,
"I'm going to get a box for us," She says to me, then heads to the counter. Then, Ronaldo stands.
"I'm gonna use the bathroom." He then heads on over to the bathroom. Once he disappears, that means me and Lars are left alone. I hope Jenny would be back, but turns out she's talking to her sister, too.Great.
"So," Lars begins, "What was wrong with your old phone?"
"Nothing was wrong with it, I just wanted a new phone."
"But was there an issue with texting? Or calls?" He looks at me confused, and then it hits me what he's asking.I really don't want to talk about this.
"Lars..." I begin, "When I first moved, and when we broke up, I..." I sigh, "I blocked you." He pauses,
"...What?"
"Yeah, I felt like.." I twiddle with my thumbs, "I...I was angry. Angry with how we ended things, and just angry with how you acted. And I just couldn't talk to you, the thought of seeing your texts or hearing your voice was too much. It hurt a lot to think about it." He stays silent, not responding. I continue, "At the time it was honestly the best thing to do, you know?"
"I mean, yeah. But it still hurts to hear you say that." I feel a pain in my heart.I don't mean to hurt him
"I'm sorry"
"No, you don't have to say sorry," He says, "I should've expected it." It goes quiet between the two of us. Before long, Jenny comes back with a box, with a smile on her face. Once she sees the two of us, her smile fades.
"Okay, who died?" Before I could explain, Lars speaks up for me.
"It's nothing." He stands up, "I gotta piss." With that, he heads to the bathroom, almost bumping in to Ronaldo. As Jenny sits next to me, Ronaldo sits across from me.
"What happened?" Ronaldo asks, and Jenny places the pizza box on the table. I sigh, rubbing my head.
"Lars wanted to know why he couldn't reach me from my old phone...so I told him the truth." Ronaldo groans,
"Why did you tell him? He didn't need to know!"
"He had a right to know, and he seemed so sad-"
"Sadie," Jenny says, "You don't need to apologize to him about that. It was your decision."
"And it was my decision for us to break up."As the two comfort me, Lars makes it back from the bathroom, and he walks past the three of us, heading right outside.
Great now he's mad at me.
Jenny and I pack up the pizza, and she gives it to me. As we all go and pay our bill, I decide to pay for Lars half of the pizza. As I wait to leave, Ronaldo and Jenny begin to talk,
"My sister says I gotta stay to help her close tonight,"
"Aw, alright..." Ronaldo says, acting sad. Jenny smiles, kissing his cheek.
"I'll see you when I get home, okay? I love you."
"I love you too." Watching them interact so lovingly makes me feel so happy for the both of them. However, at the same time, I feel so envious of their joy and connection.
