Sadie's POV
I brush my hair slowly, deep in thought. I still can't believe how last night ended. He walked away from me. Before he'd blow up on me, but we'd at least walk home together. This was so different, but in a good way.
I hope he's okay now though.
I put my brush down, and fixing my light makeup. Glancing down at my body, I fix my old blue graphic t-shirt. Then I adjust the belt on my old mom jeans.
I hope I'm doing the right thing by going back to see him
Leaving my bathroom, I head up the stairs. It's about 1:30, so Lars should be getting his lunch soon at the Big Donut. Making it to the top of the stairs, I close the basement door behind me. "I'm heading out mom!" I yell.
"Okay, sweetie!" My mom yells back. With that, I leave my house. I don't try and hurry to the Big Donut, dreading this conversation a bit.Why did I have to be so selfish about everything.
I wasn't the only one in our relationship. I was his world too.
Continuing my walk to the donut shop, I can't help but think about him. It all felt so weird, being the one to go apologize. Before it'd be him apologizing about saying the wrong thing to me.
What does this mean for us?
That thought makes me get goosebumps all over my arms. It's a bit warmer outside today, so I felt more comfortable just wearing a t-shirt. My eyes spot the Big Donut coming closer, and I begin feeling nervous once more. But he deserves to know the full truth, and I can't keep that from him anymore. Finally, I make it to the front door of the shop. Looking through the glass, I see Lars propped up against the donut case. He's on his phone, clearly bored.
Typical Lars.
I open the door, making the ding sound go off. He looks up, and his eyes widen slightly as he sees its me. "Hey."
"Hey." I say back, trying to sound happy. "Has...has it been busy today?" Lars shakes his head no in response. I go to the counter, and stop. It's clearly awkward between us again.
"So," I say, propping my elbows on the counter. "Whatcha doin?" He rolls his eyes, somewhat playfully,
"What does it look like?" I laugh softly. As I stand there, a thought comes to mind.Where's Steven?
"Hey, where's Steven?" Lars responds to me, but doesn't look my way, still scrolling on his phone.
"It's only 1:30, he's still at school."Oh, right.
Our silence fills the air, and I don't know how much more I can take. Lars looks up, and sees the clock. With that, he goes around the counter, and heads to the door. He turns the sign to 'CLOSED', and locks the door. He turns back to me, "Follow me." I nod, kind of shocked I'm going in the back, as it's been years. I watch as he goes and opens the breakroom door. I go to him, and step inside. As he follows me, I see almost nothing has changed. Lars goes and takes a seat at the table, and motions for me to sit at the other one. I do, and open my mouth, but he stops me. "Wait." He takes out his phone, and goes to his timer.
What is he doing?
Then, he sets a timer for a thirty minutes. He looks up at me, "This is my break." I nod, and he presses start. My hands felt so clammy and sweaty, preparing for an eruption of yelling and franticness from Lars. "Okay...what's up?" I stare at him, confused.
He's calm?
I clear my throat, "I-I wasn't...how...Lars why aren't you yelling at me?" He half heartedly chuckles,
"What?"
"I mean last night you were yelling back at me but you aren't yelling now?" He looks at me with concern,
"Why would I be yelling?" I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me. Before I could continue, Lars grabs my hands from across the table. "Sadie, I'm okay. I know I was a jackass before whenever we fought, but I've just...learned to walk away when things got too heated." His maturity was extremely attractive.
"Well," I say, gulping softly, "Are we okay?"
He looks at me, with soft and caring eyes, eyes that I haven't seen in a long, long time. "Yes, Sadie. We're okay." His words and reactions was something I've always wanted to hear from him, and his soul. My eyes were beginning to water, so I blinked rapidly to subdue them.
"Thank you," I say softly, really trying not to cry. "But," I continue, "there's another thing I wanted to talk about." Lars takes back his hands, and nods, waiting. "I want to talk about our break up."
"Oh..."
