What's Going On?

Trigger warning: homophobic people, detailed self harm and depression, negative self talk, possible abuse, I'm not sure if there's anything else
My character: Virgil
Y/c: 💕 (any side, Emile and Remy, ocs welcome)

Everybody was given a journal at birth, and their soulmate's favorite memories filled each page. They were always either favorite sayings written down or, on occasion, simple sketches of something they loved.

Virgil Storm's pages had started out normal, just like any kid's would. The journal was full of happy things, most of them about his parents or dog, some of them friends from school. As time went on, though, these journal entries and sketches became further and further apart by the time he was around 14. This didn't concern 💕 very much, maybe Virgil was just having a hard time! Yeah...that was it... One of the next journal entries was when Virgil moved from New York to Florida, definitely something that made him extremely happy. Not only was it a change of scenery, but it was also an escape from everybody else. After that, nothing showed up in the journal for another year or so. 💕 checked the journal again, shortly after Virgil's 16th birthday, to find something that absolutely terrified them.
'It's nice, knowing that I can still feel something, even though it's pain. It's still something.' What could have possibly been going on for Virgil to choose that as a favorite memory?

A week later, school had started up again. Virgil pulled on his favorite patchwork jacket over a band tee, applied some eyeliner under his eye and smudged it, and slung his worn backpack over his shoulder before walking to school. The inside of his jacket sleeve irritated his more recent cuts, but he supposed it could have been worse. At least nobody knew...
