"Any luck?" Eddie said biting into a poptart. "Unfortunately we have yet to find someone nerdy enough to want to join us." "It's not hard. Everyone's separated in there own little cliques. You have the band nerds, the jocks, the pretty cheerleaders and the dweebs." "What are we?" One boy asked. Eddie squinted "guess." He stood up and walked around the table toward Mike and Dustin. "Somewhere out there is a lonely person just waiting to join Hellfire." "You're right.." "I know." He said walking back to his seat. He smiled at a girl who had passed by listing to music. "Eddie, eyes over here." Mike said laughing. Eddie hopped on the chair and sat down as he fiddled with his rings. "if I could pick one person to join us I would choose her, she's smart and pretty and she's one hell of an artist." "Seriously? That's Kayla Lynn. She's in my algebra class. I could ask-" "woah-" "chill!" The table yelled. "What?" Dustin looked around confused. "No one. And I mean no one-" Eddie pointed at both Mike and Dustin "is going to ask Kayla to join Hellfire." Dustin tilted his head. "She'll just say no and I'll be embarrassed." Eddie said playing with his food. " you don't know that she might actually like D&d, and why would you be embarrassed you don't even talk to her." The table went silent. "Right?" " Yes and no, I try she's just not a talkative person." He smiled and sat up "I sit by her in English. We have to read together and this week we've been reading Romeo and Juliet and it's getting to the good part so don't ruin this for me." "Okay.." the table was silent. "So you like her?" Eddie choked on his food. A few boys laughed. "I'm sure I can help you out. Believe it or not I'm good in the love department." "no offense Henderson, i don't believe you and no, I don't want your help. Thanks though." "So you got it all on your own?" "Yeah." Eddie said nodding. Mike looked at the other boys who were smiling. "How long have you had this little crush?" "Oh my god." Eddie dropped his poptart and crossed his arms. "You're not gonna shut up are you?" "No" "Jesus H Christ"

The day went by slow, and I wasn't mad about it. I walked in my 6th period class and before I made it to my seat I noticed Eddie who sits next to me scoot his chair over awkwardly. I ignored him and took a seat. I dropped my books on the table and rummaged though my bag for a pencil. "Hi guys, my names Mrs Kate. I'll be your sub for today. I don't have anything for y'all to do except read with your partner independently." I pulled out my book and flipped through the pages. "Uh, do you know what page we were on?" I looked up at the boy who was flipping through his book. "I think it was page 210" "thank you" he said smiling. I looked down at my book and listed to him read. I couldn't concentrate much. There was this intense throbbing coming from my arms that I couldn't get over. "Kayla-" "huh?" I said looking up at him. "It's your turn." "Oh- yeah sorry." I ignored his look of concern and searched the page for my spot. "Where are we?" "Here" he pointed at a spot in my book. "Sorry"

We read until the bell rang, it was cloudy and rainy outside. Meaning that fathers going to be home early. I shook my leg and stared at the desk until the classroom went quiet.   "Kayla.." I looked over at the boy who was still sitting next to me. "Are you okay?" "Huh- yeah I'm fine." I said grabbing my things. "I know it's none of my business, but if you ever wanna talk I'm here." "Thanks" "where's your next class?" "B hall, Mr Cones Algebra." "I'll walk with yo-" "it's okay i can walk myself. Plus you should go to class. You'll be late." I smiled at him. "I'm always late to that old bats class." "That's probably why your failing." "Woah, that's cold Kayla." I smiled at him. "And you're wrong, I have a D in there." "Oh barely passing, you're doing so good!" "I know" I walked out of the classroom being followed by the boy. "Yeah, this years my year. I just know it." "I'll make sure you walk this year." I said smiling. "Hmmm i guess I could squeeze in a tutor session or two." "Oh I didn't realize your were booked up." "Yeah, you know, I got the world to save and stuff." "Mhmm, you mean your little D&D club, oh and you're band too." "Yeah- wait you know about my band?" "I've seen a few shows. Not on purpose." "Mm yeah never on purpose." I smiled at him as we approached the door. "You should come to a show, like on purpose this time. We play on fridays. Every other week. We'd love to see you there." "I'll think about it." The bell rang. Eddie stared at me smiling. "Eddie, go." "Oh shit-" he said running off down the hall. I hardly realized it but by everyone's eyes on me I had been smiling when I took my seat. "Kayla." "Hmm?" "Are you okay?" I looked at Dustin confused. "Yeah.. I just really like math." I took out my notepad and looked at Dustin. He wasn't to sure about my new attitude and neither was I.

"So Kayla." I looked up from my work. "What?" "Do you have an imagination?" "I hope so." I said looking at my math problem. "Do you ever think about saving the world." I blinked "You're not trying to do what I think you're doing." "Oh come on, it's fun and we need a girl to add some spice to the pot." We stared at each other. "Okay it's because Lucas basically got kicked out and so we need a replacement." "No." "Kayla please.." "I don't have time after school or I would. I have chores at home I need to do." "Kayla.. you're always home.. do something fun for once." I looked at the curly haired boy. "Fine, but I'm not playing." His smile dropped. "That's the entire point of joining the club." "You didn't say I had to play."  Dustin looked at me. "Shit"

"Please just don't say anything stupid." "Excuse me?" I said walking with the boy. "We're literally going to a d&d campaign and you're telling me not to say anything stupid?" "Yeah sorry..." The door opened to a room filled with boys. "Wala, a new member!" Eddies face flushed red as he locked eyes with mine. "Dustin, can we talk."
