"Kayla hold up!" Eddie said, chasing after me. He took my hand and walked with me toward the lake. The water was a dark murky blue color. Some would say it's a magical lake, especially at night when the moonlight dances on the surface. I believe it's just a fucking lake. "Damn why are there so many boats out today." Eddie was referring to the two boats that were floating in the middle of the water. "It's perfect Fishing weather." I said placing my palm on the water. "Of course you'd know that." I flicked the water at him. "What's that supposed to mean!?" "You're a little farm girl." He laughed. "That's stereotyping, not all farmers are fishers, and I'm not a farm girl." "Do you tend to your cows and pigs?" I stood up and looked at him. "We don't have pigs-" "then what's your dad?" He said throwing rocks into the water. "Oh that was a good one.." I said laughing, he smiled at me which drove me absolutely crazy. "What are you doing?" He asked. "What's it look like I'm doing Eddie?" "Taking your shoes off-" "ding ding we have a winner!" I said slipping my socks into my shoes. "I didn't know we were going swimming today or i would have brought towels. I squeezed the bottom of my dress as I walked in the freezing water. "Oh heavens no, I'm not going all the way in. It's freezing!" I splashed around gently and squealed. "Be careful you'll fall-" Eddie grabbed my arm. "What did I say?" I laughed. "You are the most clumsy person I know!" I squeezed the bottom of my dress where it had gotten wet. "Im sorry" I said slipping on my shoes. "Don't be sorry, it's cute" he said grabbing me from behind. I slapped his arms playfully and laughed.
-
"I have bad news." He said as we walked along the lake. "What is it?" "I'm terribly hungry." He said, holding his stomach dramatically. "Oh well, I have even worse news." "That is?" "I'm hungry too!" I said playfully pushing him. "To bad you didn't bring any snacks." "Not true." He smiled looking at me. "You're here." "Oh that's awful!" I laughed. "Oh but it was so good!" "Shut up and let's go get food."
-
After going back-and-forth, we decided on IHOP. "Breakfast food is always a winner in my eyes." "What's your favorite?" "Eggs, bacon, oh and a fat ass pancake!" "Eddie that's awful!" "What!?" "I mean bacon and eggs are good, but pancakes!? Your sleeping on waffles my boy." "Okay okay, waffles are good but pancakes-" "waffles" I sat up and looked at him. I watched him look at my lips and back at my eyes. "Waffles." "Waffles." I smiled. The van came to a halt. He quickly got out and ran to open my door for me. "Madam." "Why thank you!" I said, sliding out of the van. I quickly took his hand as we walked in the building.
-
"Okay, this bacon is actually so metal." "You did not just say that in front of me." Eddie laughed. "So is this waffle." "It's metal?" "Mhm" I said in the middle of a bite. "Kayla!" I looked up at a curly haired brunette boy. "Gabriel." "It's Gabe. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be training your horse?" "Shouldn't you be minding your own business?" I said, taking a drink of my chocolate milk. "I was just asking." He smiled, looking at Eddie. "Oh- my bad I didn't realize you were busy." "Clearly." Eddie rolled his eyes. "The names Gabriel Cornwall, I go by Gabe. And you are?" "Eddie Munson." "Right, right, the drug dealer. Kayla, I didn't know you did dr-" "Gabe, shut the hell up and leave us alone." "Right, right, we'll.. I'll talk to you later." He smiled at me as he walked away. "He's so annoying," I said. Eddie didn't say much after that. He just ate his food. "Can I get the bill please." I noticed his puppy eyes looking at me and back down at the table. He quickly placed a wod of cash on the table and grabbed my hand. "Eddie-" "let's go!" He grabbed my hand as we ran to the van. "Did we just dine and dash?" I asked as he got in the drivers seat. "No. Maybe. I paid for like half of it." "Eddie!" I said, buckling up. "Kayla!" He mimicked me. "You're such a brat."
-
We pulled up to an overlook. The sun was setting, which was beautiful. "Oh look how gorgeous!" I looked back at Eddie who had just gotten out of the van. He walked up to me and rested himself against the stone ledge. I hoped up on the ledge. "Kayla holy fuck" he said, grabbing me by the hand gently. The cotton candy sunset sent a rainstorm of serotonin my way. My heart skipped a beat as the breeze blew through my hair. I wish I could have seen the way Eddie was looking at me. I imagine he was looking at something shiny, something just shiny enough to give him that sparkle in his eye that caught my attention. "Kayla" he said. I slowly sat down on the ledge at eye level with him. "Eddie." I smiled. "I don't know how to explain the way you make me feel when I'm around you." I played with his rings on his hand and smiled. "Try" "it's like, I feel whole. I feel whole when I'm with you." I looked at his big brown eyes and back down at his pink lips. "Eddie..." a weird warmth blossomed in my chest, my heart began dancing as Eddie leaned in close, our lips brushing together, tentatively, for the first time. The smell of his Cologne, of the soft scent of his pine, was dizzying, the butterflies began dancing in my stomach once again. Suddenly the warmth consumed me as I leaned into the kiss, Eddie's lips impossibly soft against mine. They were almost silky. I could feel the soft tickle of his breath beneath my nose. The kiss was interrupted by Eddie's adorable smile. We just stared at each other. Taking in each others company. I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him, I just held him.
-
After a long drive, we pulled up to the house. Of course I'm still smiling like an idiot, ever since we left that spot I can't keep that moment out of my head. I could tell he was really proud of himself because he had almost the exact same smile he had on after kissing me. "So, can I call you tomorrow?" I unbuckled myself and rested my chin on my palm. "Hmm we'll see.. I might be busy.." "yeah?" "Mhm" I smiled at the smirk that emerged on Eddie's face. Butterflies filled my stomach as I began leaning in closer to him. I suddenly felt uneasy. like clockwork the front door slammed. "Shit.." I said, sitting back. A man stood in front of the door with his arms crossed. "Come on," Eddie said, unbuckling. I quickly buckled him back. "It's okay, he's probably been drinking, I don't want you to meet him like this. He's a real dick when intoxicated." "And he's not sober?" I tilted my head at him. "Eddie, please." He rolled his eyes at me. We sat in silence for a few seconds. His eyes drifted between my lips and eyes. "I really want to kiss you." "I'll call you." I smiled. He grabbed my hand and squeezed my palm. "I'll answer." I slid out of his van and walked to the porch. "Welcome home honey." "Hi dad." "Your boyfriend didn't want to walk you to the door? How rude." "He's not my boyfriend." I said, walking past him. He grabbed my arm and squeezed it tightly. "Then why are you dressed like that?" He looked me up and down, which made the butterflies that once danced in my stomach turn to ash. "Please let me go.." he looked back at the van that was still sitting in the driveway. "What a joke." He let me go. I rushed inside, immediately laying eyes on my mother who had been quietly sitting at the dinner table. "Why did you let him drink?" "I'm-" the door slammed shut. "I'm sorry" she said quietly. "Kayla Kayla Kayla, you look so grown up. Come, dinner is getting cold." "I already ate." I said, walking to the stairs. "COME SIT!" He slammed his hands down on the table. "Come sit honey." Mother smiled at me. "We waited two hours to eat for you. The least you can do is sit with us." My father said as he chewed loudly. I took a seat and sat quietly. "So, how was your night?" My mother asked. "It was good, we went to-" "how was the sex?" "Jake." "What!? They're teenagers, if she's not thinking it that boy definitely is." "Eddie's not like that, he's respectful and a good guy." "You know I was a teenager once, I know exactly what he's thinking! Pretty girl, small, quiet, big b-" "Why do you always bring up sex!? I'm not interested in it. And if I was, I know how to be safe about it!" My father just looked at me. "Kids, they think they know everything." I crossed my arms and looked at my mother. She put her fork down. "I talked to Eddie a few times, he's a good kid and he is very respectful. He would never do anything to inflict harm upon her. And if there was a world where he did, she could take him." She smiled at me. "All I'm saying is that boys want one thing and one thing only and that's-" "Goodnight." I said standing up. "I didn't say you could leave." "I did." My mother said. "If she doesn't want to be here she doesn't have to, she's got a busy day tomorrow." They stared at each other. "Get me another beer."
