CHAPTER 55:
Liliana Charlotte Seina Vanidestine
I felt like I was gasping for air as I stared at the three people in the living room, one of whom was my sister Liane.
A woman around my father's age stood up, resembling me. She approached me, tears streaming down her face. "Lily..." she called my name softly.
“S-sino po kayo?” I stammered, confused by the woman’s resemblance to me.
“She’s your mom, Lily,” my father answered for her.
I froze in my spot. What did he say? Is she Mom? Is this beautiful woman really my mother?
Suddenly, I dropped to my knees, and in an instant, I didn’t even realize I was crying. The woman knelt down to meet me at eye level, wrapping her arms around me as she soothed my back and kissed my temple.
“Are you really my m-mommy?” I sobbed, overwhelmed by the emotions flooding me.
“Yes, sweetie. I’m your mom.” She cried alongside me, her voice laced with emotion.
“But… you said you d-died after you g-gave birth to me.” I choked out through my tears.
“Lily, I was lying about that. There was a car accident when you were only three months old, and your older brother and sister were with us at that time.” My dad struggled to keep his own tears in check. “Your mother couldn’t move her legs because of her injuries, so she wanted me to save you and your siblings.” He added, “But you were the only one I was able to save.” He quickly wiped away a tear that escaped down his cheek. “I wasn’t able to save your older brother and sister because the car exploded.”
“But why did you lie to me, Daddy?” I asked, my voice trembling.
“I thought it would be better to hide the truth than to let you hate me,” he replied, his voice filled with regret.
I looked up at my dad, who stood beside Liane and the other man, positioned in front of Mom. “Why would I get mad at my own father?”
“Because it’s my fault that the accident happened!” he shouted through his tears, the anguish clear on his face. “If only I hadn’t interacted with some yakuza, that accident wouldn’t have happened.” His voice raised in frustration, Liane and the man beside her stepped back slightly.
“It’s not your fault, Knox,” Mom said gently to Dad. “You had to deal with the yakuza for your job as an agent.”
“Damn!” Dad yelled as he stormed out of the penthouse.
Mom turned to me, kissing my forehead. “Please don’t be mad at your dad, Lily,” she pleaded.
“I’m not mad at him, m-mommy,” I stammered, still getting used to calling her ‘mommy.’
She simply smiled at me, helping me to my feet and guiding me to the living room. Once I was comfortably seated, she sat beside me, holding my hand.
“If you don’t know my name yet, let me introduce myself, sweetie,” she smiled gently. “I’m Seiarra Alvarez Valencia. I think my name was hidden from you for some reason.” Despite her emotional state, she still managed to smile. “Your father hid my name from you.”
“I’m confused about everything that’s happening. Just yesterday, Dad said you were dead after giving birth to me, and now you’re here in front of me, alive.” I felt tears threatening to spill again. “What happened to you and Liane?” I looked over at my sister and the man beside her.
