CHAPTER 40:
Liliana Charlotte Seina Vanidestine
We are currently at a five-star restaurant near the apartment building where I live with my dad. I initially hesitated about eating here because the food is expensive, but Vladimir insisted it was fine since it’s my birthday and he wanted to treat me.
As we sat down, I felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. The elegant atmosphere overwhelmed me—soft music filled the air, and the ambiance was enhanced by the warm, dim lights. I couldn’t help but glance at the beautifully arranged tables around us, each adorned with exquisite centerpieces. I was grateful but also embarrassed, knowing how much this meal would cost.
Vladimir had ordered a variety of dishes, and I felt a pang of guilt as I realized he was taking charge of everything. “You didn’t have to order so much,” I said with a nervous laugh, glancing at the spread in front of us.
“Why not? It’s your special day! You deserve to celebrate in style,” he replied with a charming smile, making me feel a bit more at ease. Still, I couldn’t shake off the feeling of discomfort; it felt odd being treated like this by someone I barely knew.
As we began to eat, I tried to enjoy the delicious flavors of the dishes he had picked. Each bite was exquisite, yet I found myself stealing glances at Vladimir. His enthusiasm was contagious, and I felt a flutter in my stomach each time he complimented the food or made me laugh.
“Is everything to your liking?” he asked, leaning slightly closer, his eyes sparkling with interest.
“It’s amazing! Thank you for bringing me here,” I replied, smiling genuinely this time.
“Of course! You deserve the best on your birthday. And don’t worry, I’m more than happy to treat you,” he said, his tone sincere.
I nodded, feeling a mix of gratitude and confusion. While I was enjoying the moment, a part of me couldn’t help but wonder about Theodore. Where was he? He hadn’t reached out to wish me a happy birthday, and that stung more than I wanted to admit.
Vladimir seemed to sense my distraction. “What are you thinking about?” he asked, his brow furrowed with concern.
“Just… some personal stuff,” I replied, not wanting to burden him with my thoughts about Theodore.
He smiled, a hint of mischief in his expression. “Well, let’s focus on having a great time tonight. After all, it’s your birthday!”
I tried to push my worries aside and immerse myself in the celebration. As the waiter brought out a stunning cake adorned with candles, I couldn’t help but feel a swell of emotions—joy, confusion, and a tinge of sadness all swirling together.
“Make a wish,” Vladimir encouraged, his gaze intense and expectant.
Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath, wishing for happiness and clarity in my life. “I wish for my husband to come here,” I whispered, hoping that this simple wish could somehow mend the cracks in my heart.
As I blew out the candles, I felt a strange mixture of hope and uncertainty. This night was meant to be special, and despite my worries, I wanted to embrace the joy of being celebrated, even if it meant navigating the complexities of my feelings along the way.
