Julia and Eddie had pretty much opened every cabinet in the main residence looking for something to eat. But since it had been a while anyone had lived there, the presence of food was scanty. They had eventually found a can of soup, that hadn't expired yet, and warmed it up over the stove. It'll just have to do.
The two had taken the soup back to the safety of the shed. It was nice to finally eat something that was actually hot for a chance, all the dry cereal and half-frozen Eggo's taken their toll.
They quietly drank their soup out of their mugs as they sat on the floor. Julia was sure there were bowls somewhere in the house, but Eddie had insisted on the mugs. Julia had to agree, this was way more fun and efficient.
Dustin had left one of his Walkie Talkie's behind so they could reach them in case of an emergency. Obviously they had used it to annoy the carp out of him instead. And now, that boredom had struck again, Dustin was the one to suffer.
"Hey, Dustin, this is Eddie the Banished. You there?" Eddie talked into the radio.
"Dustin, can you hear me?" He tried again when no one answered.
"Dustin?"
"I don't think he's there." Julia said.
Eddie ignored her comment and continued. "Earth to Dustin."
The sounds of static sounded though the radio indicating someone had joined the frequency. Eddie looked at Julia who had already looked up from her soup.
"Hey, it's Nancy." The radio said.
"Wheeler! Hey." Eddie answered.
"Hii, Nance!" Julia yelled.
"Um, I, we, are gonna need a food delivery, like really soon, unless you want us going out into the world."
"No. No, no, no. Don't do that." Nancy sighed. "Just.. Stay where you are, and we'll be there as soon as we can."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Listen, um... can you pick me up a six-pack?"
"And a bagel!" Julia added.
"And a bagel!... Wait, what? Why a bagel?"
"I'm hungry."
"Alright." He turned back to the radio. "A six-pack and a bagel. We know, it's stupid as shit, drinking right now, but a cold beer would really calm my, our, jangled nerves-"
"Hey, I'm gonna have to call you back." Nancy said which was followed by radio silence.
"No, don't you da-- Wheeler? Wheeler? She hung up on me. She hung up on me!" Eddie said irritated as he looked at Julia.
"Soo.. No beer or bagel?"
"No beer or bagel."
_
Julia finished her soup and put the mug on the floor next to her before falling back and looking up at the ceiling. She sighed. Eddie soon joined her on the floor and laid next to her.
"This is not how I had envisioned Spring break." He sighed breaking the silence.
Julia chuckled, no, it was not.
"Yeah, neither did I."
It was silent for a while again, they were both deep in thought staring at the ceiling. Julia stuck her hands out as if to reach for the ceiling, soon Eddie's joined hers in the air. She moved her hand and conjoined their pinky's, they both stared at their hands, unsure what to say.
"You know, it could always be worse." Julia said. Eddie turned his head to her.
"How? How could this possibly be worse?"
