I slid out of the pool and made my way over the sliding door, hiding myself as I tried to listen in on the conversation.

"Kiba calm down and lower your voice, you have company!" Hana warned him.

"Company that was supposed to fucking meet you all tonight, Hana!"

"I get that, but you know how mom is and how much she wants to end this divorce."

"So what?! So she just fucking decides that meeting one of her son's friends isn't a way for her to take her mind off dad?!"

"What do you think?! She met my boyfriend once and after that sees never met him again. She met all your other friends before too so to her this is probably just another simple dinner that isn't relevant to her."

"Well it's not! Who I have for her to meet his family practically showered me with appreciation and hospitality, they could've given less of a shit about me, but they went the extra mile for their son!"

"..." I was speechless.

"..." So was Hana.

"All I wanted was to return the favor and make him feel like how I did, but I should've known better than to put my faith in mom!"

"Kiba-"

"It's true! Don't even try to fucking tell me that it isn't because you know I'm right."

"She loves us, but she's just not in the right frame of mind right now."

"For how long? Because this divorce has been going on for a while now and it doesn't seem to be making any progress!"

"It has, dads is no longer here. So it's better for us."

"Better for us?! You have to be working two jobs and struggling to help out around the house, Hana! You have your job at the vet and you also have to be looking after mom's business in order to keep her from sulking away and going bankrupt!" He argued, rendering her silent.

"How is Itachi even taking any of this?"

"He's being supportive of me and the decision, but that's only because he knows why I'm doing all this."

"Then what is that?"

"I'm saving up so I can take you and we both get out of here."

"I'm not leaving-"

"I know! I know you're not going to leave your friends or mom, but growing up in this type of environment isn't healthy for you and as your big sister, it's my duty to look after you no matter how old you are."

"Like dad said, the money for this house was because of him and mom working hard, so it isn't our money. We need to start making our own because believe it or not if dad wins the contract to the house then we can kiss all this goodbye because all of us will be out on the streets."

"What about if mom wins?"

"Do you think she'll be happy living with the kids of the man she once loved but had to chase away all because he let his own ego go to his head?"

"She'll need time to heal, Kiba."

"That doesn't mean we should leave her."

"Nor does it mean you should spend the rest of your life hurting while she heals."
