In the morning, I woke up to find Honey sitting next to my bed, reading something on her phone. I got up to brush my teeth and do my business. Then, I came back into the room, grabbed my phone, and sat on the futon. I scrolled aimlessly through social media, trying to act like everything was hunkydory.
"Hey, Sweetie," Honey greeted lovingly as she approached me, "how's my baby sissy?"
"Oh, I'm good," I said awkwardly.
"Can I talk to you for a sec?"
"Sure." I turned off my phone screen, and placed my phone next to me on the futon.
Honey sat to my other side on the futon. "Come here, Baby." She wrapped her arm around me, and rested my head on her shoulder. "Are you feeling abandoned, Sweetie?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I've been spending a lot of time with Marissa and her friends, and I know they never invite you to tag along. I notice they don't really pay any attention to you, and I haven't been spending any time with you for a while. Are you feeling left out?"
I didn't answer.
"It's okay, Sweetie. You can tell me."
I opened my mouth to speak, but I couldn't form any words.
"I know you always encourage me to go hang with my friends, but Sweetie, if it's making you feel sad, I need to know. I don't want my baby sissy to feel sad." She held me tighter. "Tell me," she said in a cutesy voice.
I slowly nodded my head.
"Awwww, Sweetie-Pie..." She pulled me into a big hug. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because, I didn't wanna hurt you," I said, choking back tears.
"Awww, Hunny Bunny." She kissed my cheek. "You would never hurt me by telling me how you feel."
"It's just... I know they're your friends, and I didn't wanna ruin that for you. I didn't wanna be controlling of you... like my mom was of me, and I didn't wanna do anything to ruin our friendship." I finally broke down sobbing, but I continued explaining. "I wanted you to be happy."
"Awwwwww!" Honey cried as she held me tighter. "You wanted me to be happy, even if it meant you were miserable?"
"Yeah," I sobbed.
"Oh, no, Sweetheart, listen to me. You never, ever, ever have to sacrifice your own happiness for me or anybody, ever. You can always tell me when you're hurting, always." She wrapped her tail around me, and played with my hair as she continued comforting me. "Sweetie-Pie... I love my new friends, but nobody could ever take your place in my heart. You are, and always will be, my number one bestie and my baby sissy. They are fun to hang out with, but I don't like the way they always ignore you. I'm gonna talk to them, okay?"
"But, if they don't wanna be my friends, I can't make them like me."
"I know, but they never even gave you a chance. They never even tried to get to know you. They just blatantly ignored you, and that makes me so sad. If they'd only give you a chance, they'd love you just as much as I do. After all, Brad gave you a chance, and now, look at you two. He thinks of you as a sister. He's the one who pointed out to me that something was wrong. He saw you in the cafeteria last night, and he said you were very sad. He helped me realize that, and what could've been going on with you. That's how much he cares about both of us."
"I really love him a lot," I sobbed. Then, I realized what I'd just said. "I mean–"
Honey giggled. "I know what you meant, Sweetie. You love him like a brother."
