On Honey's twenty-fifth birthday, we all decided to throw her a surprise party. While she was giving voice lessons over at other people's houses, we spent the day decorating our house, baking a cake, cooking food, and wrapping presents. Michelle baked the cake. Brad and Dad cooked burgers and hotdogs on the grill. Tyler and Kelly decorated with balloons and streamers, and Kitty and I went out to buy chips, drinks, and dips. When we returned, we helped Shannon wrap the presents. By the time Honey's work day was over, everything was set up and ready to go. When she pulled into the driveway, we waited for what seemed like forever, but was really only about ten seconds. She opened the door, and we all shouted "Surprise!"
Honey gasped when she saw everything set up. "Oh, my goodness!" she squealed. "You did all this for me?!"
"We sure did, Sweetie," said Kitty.
"Oh, happy birthday, beautiful angel," Michelle said as she gave Honey a big hug.
"Awwwww, thank you, Mommy!" Honey cried, returning the hug. "Thank you all! Awww, you guys are the best!"
"No, you're the best," I said. "That's why we did this for you, because you deserve to have an amazing birthday since you're such an amazing person."
"Awwwww, come here!" Honey threw her arms and tail around me, and squeezed me tightly, almost lifting me off the ground.
Just then, the doorbell rang
"Oh, I'll get it," said Brad as he hurried over to answer the door. "Hey, come on in, guys."
As soon as Honey saw who was walking through the front door, she immediately ran to them, crying and squealing joyfully. "Emily!"
"Honey!" Emily cried, running to Honey, and jumping into her arms.
Honey lifted her up, and held her close, planting little kisses all over her face. "Awwwwww, it's so good to see you, Baby!"
"Happy birthday," Emily said, handing her a sheet of paper.
"What's this?"
"It's for you."
Honey looked at the paper, and gasped when she saw what it was. "Oh, my goodness, did you draw this for me?"
"Yep. It's you as a magical angel princess."
It was a very well-drawn picture of Honey in a white, zip-up onesie. Her tail was long and white, and she had big wings and a gorgeous tiara. The drawing was covered in glitter.
"Awwwwwwwwwwww!" Honey cried. "It's so beautiful! I didn't know you could draw! You're an amazing artist!"
"Thank you," said Emily. "It's what I wanna be when I grow up."
"Well, you should, because you're so talented. Awwww, thank you, Baby. It's so beautiful! I'm gonna hang it on the fridge."
"Happy birthday, Honey," Emily's mother said as she approached her, handing her a card. "This is from both of us."
"Awwww, thank you, Jessica. I'll put it over here with all my other cards and presents. I can't wait to see it."
We all gathered outside on the back deck to eat our dinner and socialize. Emily, of course, sat next to Honey, and often leaned against her for a hug. Honey was always happy to oblige.
"This is the best burger I've ever had," said Jessica.
"Oh, yeah," Tyler agreed. "You guys outdid yourselves."
