Chapter 12-
Turns out chemistry isn't my thing. I end up setting my experiment on fire, earning me the mocking nickname of Pyroleen. It's clever on their half, I guess. When I can get out of the classroom it's a relief. Until a kid pulls at my hair and yanks me backwards. Again, I'm on the ground where everyone can kick me and make it look like an accident. I manage to find Brent and hurry to his side.
"Chemistry isn't fun." I squeak.
"I've heard, Pyroleen." He says slamming the locker.
"How have you heard that already?" I ask.
"Words fly around the hallway. I know all the things I need to know about other people." He says. I nod, "Popularity isn't really your thing."
"I've noticed." I say.
"Good thing it's not mine either." He smiles wide.
"So are we friends?" I ask.
"I guess that's what you could call us." He shrugs.
"I know one thing I'm good at then." I say.
"What?" He asks as we slip down the hall. We stop at History.
"Making good friends." I quickly say slipping into the classroom. I slide to my seat undetected by anyone. Yet.
"I see you've found yourself a nickname, Pyroleen." Allison smirks standing in front of me, "I guess accidents are attracted to you. I mean, you were one anyway." The look on her face is pure evil. She read them. All of them maybe. She has things she can use against me. The worst part is it will work because my parents are a very sensitive subject to me. My feelings must register on my face, since her expression changes immediately to triumph.
"I think the whole school would like to know what a mistake you are." She whispers in my ear.
"Please don't. I don't want everyone knowing my personal business." I plea.
"You've never been to middle school, have you? And you don't know how this works, do you?" She talks like she is superior to me.
"No....." I trail off.
"Well here's how it works. I'm the queen here. The pretty popular one everyone loves and adores. You're the lowest of the low. The loser, the geek, the ugly one, the wallflower. Except you stick out to me because you're different. They tell you different is good, but it's not. And you need to know that. I don't like unique, Aileen. Anything unique has to be changed. Right now you're a bright happy butterfly wanting to spread your friendly happiness. It's my life mission to destroy that butterfly. And I will succeed, and when I do it will be my proudest achievement. I will break you Aileen. You will be broken." Allison says in the most intimidating way that I feel broken already. But I'm not. I'm still a ray of sunshine and I'm going to let myself shine. After Allison's speech, I only feel like I should try to shine brighter, not any less. She isn't putting this light out.
"Try all you want but I will never go out." I reply.
"A challenge." She smirks.
"Class take your seats class is about to begin." Mrs. Gilden says.
"I love a challenge." And with that Allison goes to take her seat giving me a smile full of the promise that she will break me.

After History I find that I have PE with Brent. I also learn PE stands for physical education which is gym which we had at school when I was 7. The only difference is you have to change clothes. They issue me a uniform to change into. It's the school colors of blue and white. I go to the locker rooms and to my assigned locker. Lots of lockers. When I find mine and unlock it I turn my face just enough to see the other girls in my class.
