Author's note: Rodrick's pov
I've had a lot of bad ideas in my lifetime. Do I regret them? No. Mostly because I know I've gotten away with them. But also because I know I'm the only one who will be getting in trouble for it. Or getting hurt.
But this was a really bad idea. A really, really, really bad idea and it wasn't even mine, it wasn't fully hers either. It was his.
Sure, it was just a party, but it was about the intention. Not just that, but the way he invited her, the way he spoke to her and looked at her. Just everything about him and y/n pissed me off. Mostly him though. Because it wasn't y/n's fault she didn't see, or even didn't want to see it. To her, he was just a new friend, I don't know why suddenly having me as a friend wasn't enough, but apparently it wasn't.
I must have been thinking really hard without realizing, my fingers turn into drumsticks and start tapping against my knees. The drumming must have been annoying or distracting because for the first time tonight y/n takes her attention off getting ready and focuses on me instead.
"What's wrong ?"
She asks, noticing the frown that my lips had formed into as I thought how this night was gonna play out.
"Nothing." I try to lie, but y/n can see through it.
"You sure ? You look completely spaced out."
"Not like there's much to pay attention to."
My words must have come off a bit rude, because her expression quickly changes. Her brows pull together, and her face scrunches the same way her mom does before she says, "What the hell you talkin bout.".
"I mean, I did ask you to help me with my outfit, but you wanna just sit her and mope instead."
"I was helping you, but you're taking too fucking long. Just put something on so we can leave." My words don't come off mean, they are mean.
"Well, sorry, I wanna look good for my first party." She sounds obnoxious.
I huff and roll my eyes. That should have been all I did, I should have stayed quiet and not let this turn into a big thing, but of course I didn't.
"Sure, you're not getting ready for your little mall boy." I whisper, barely. Refusing to say his name.
She scoffs loudly.
"Rodrick, why are you acting so fucking weird ? The moment I started being friends with someone who wasn't you or wasn't your friend, you wanna act like we're in elementary school." She snapped, the volume of her voice growing as she spoke.
"Just because I'm friends with someone you don't like doesn't mean you have to stop being my friend." Her words suddenly hold much more weight. A weight that cracked her voice and pulled at the corner of her lips.
"Be friends with whoever you want." I tell her, purposefully keeping my voice soft. "Just don't expect me to like him, and just because you're a good person doesn't mean everyone is."
"Does that include you?" She asks, back turned to me.
"Maybe it does."
We sit in silence for the next few minutes. Both of us unsure what to say that won't make the other more on edge. She gets dressed quickly, stuffing her options into her closet and just throwing something on. The ride is awkward to say the least, we pick up Chris and Ben, giving them b.s smiles and excitement on our way to the party.
"So how fucked up are you planning on it getting y/n?" Chris asks her with a cocky smile.
"Uh, probably not at all."
"Right, gotta stay sober in case you wanna hook up with anyone, let's hope Rodrick bought condoms." Ben says, giving my shoulders playful punches.
I'm not sure how I let it slip my mind, but suddenly it becomes so obvious. Well it was always obvious, but now it's just much, much more obvious. He doesn't want to be her friend, he wants to fuck her.
