"Agent Coulson is taking Madelyn to run a diagnostic test. Then he'll bring her to you for your interrogation while we wait on the results," Clint briefs Nat as the two agents walk through the double doors of the hallway into the office.

"You don't think that test will scare her? She's probably been tested more than we can count," Nat sighs, shuffling papers around for Madelyn's file on her desk.

"It's protocol. We have to," Clint says.

Natasha keeps rummaging around her desk. She's flustered and agitated, and it's clear to Clint.

"Nat, hey," Clint grabs Natasha's arm and makes her look at him. Nat's face is flushed and for a second, a look of fear flashes across her face.

"I know you care about this girl. I do too," Clint starts, calming Natasha down, "That's why we've gotta do our job right."

Natasha nods at him. She doesn't have to say a word. She knows Clint understands why this is so hard for her. Clint knows her better than anyone else, and he believed in her when no one else did.

Clint smiles as he notices Nat's breathing go back to normal and her face softens, "You've got this."

Nat nods as Clint lets go of her arms. He grabs a file from the corner of Nat's desk, underneath a couple papers, "I think this is what you were looking for."

Nat takes the file from Clint and smiles, "What would I do without you?"

"You'd be just fine," Clint replied with a smirk.

He turns to go to his desk and grabs his copy of Madelyn's file. He begins to walk toward the lab.

"Find me as soon as you get results," Nat yells across the room.

Clint doesn't look over his shoulder, but he smiles to himself as he yells back , "I wouldn't find anyone else!"

Natasha smiles then looks down at the file in her hands. She stares at the picture of this sweet, 6 year old girl then glances at the recent photo the agents took. Her hair is still blonde, her face looks roughly the same, but the innocence is gone. Only fear is showing on the face of the 20 year old Madelyn. Nat shuts the file, shutting her eyes for a brief moment before she turns and heads to the interrogation room to meet Madelyn.

During this time, an agent knocks on the door to Madelyn's room. She slowly opens the door, peeling her head out just enough to see who it is.

"Hi Madelyn," the agent says in an upbeat tone, "I'm Agent Coulson! I'm here to take you to do a quick little test."

Madelyn is hesitant. She doesn't like those. Every test she had to take ended with pain.

Noticing the skepticism on her face, Coulson continues, "It won't take long. It's just to make sure you're healthy and don't have any medical issues that need to be seen about."

Madelyn nods, seeming to trust the warm smile of Agent Coulson. She steps out of the room, and shuts the door quietly behind her.

"It's right this way," Coulson directs the girl, smiling the entire time.

Once they reach the lab, Coulson takes Madelyn over to the testing equipment.

"Now if you ever feel uncomfortable or get scared, let me know, and I'll stop the test. I'll be right here for you," Coulson tells her, giving her another signature warm grin.

Madelyn nods, returning a small, understanding smile to him.

Meanwhile, Clint swings by the lab and grabs a copy of the familial DNA results. The diagnostics test just finished, so the results should be in the system soon. Clint makes his way to Director Fury's office to update him on the case, giving a friendly nod to Agent Coulson as he passes him.
