Madelyn taps her foot nervously as she sits on the floor of the interrogation room. She has her arms crossed with her body hunched over, tears are still streaming down her face. Her mind is racing. Memories of her mom, what she just did, and what is going to happen next all fly through her brain at lightning speed. She thinks about what happened ten minutes ago. Fury wanted to speak with her after her incident, but before she could get up, Clint and Nat stepped in front of her, demanding that Fury talk to them instead. What could he have wanted from her? And why did Nat and Clint want to go instead of her? Madelyn doesn't have time to think much more as Agent Coulson approaches her, pulling her from any anxiety or overthinking she was about to do.———————————
"What happened in there?!" Director Fury stares at Agent Barton and Agent Romanoff who stand in front of his desk.
The two agents are silent; both are in shock at what just occurred in the interrogation room.
"Answer me!" Fury slams his fist on his desk.
Clint clears his throat, "We don't know, sir."
"Well you best get to finding out because that was a destructive display," Director Fury sighs, anger lacing his voice, as he plops down into his desk chair.
"I was just trying to ask her questions about her family, but she just shut down. She started having a panic attack I think," Natasha tells him.
"We can't let her leave her until we do extensive research on her. She can't go out into the world like that. She must stay here. Maybe she can..." Fury trails off, dwelling on that last part, thinking of how beneficial this girl could be to future projects.
"Sir, with all due respect," Clint starts, stepping closer to the desk.
"That may not be the best idea," Natasha puts her hand out to stop Clint, stepping even closer than he was.
Fury stares at the two of them, "Are you seriously going to try and convince me that this girl should be allowed to just walk right out of here after that?"
"No sir," Natasha says, straightening up as Clint steps up to join her, "We just think extensive testing and research may be too much. We can try to find out more, but she's been through enough."
"We can't just decide for her. She's had her freedom taken away for too long," Clint adds.
Fury's eyes shift back and forth between the two of them, glaring as he tries to see if they'll break. The agents hold their ground- both of them with stern, stable looks on their faces.
"Alright, but only because I trust you two," Fury finally agrees, resulting in a small smile from the pair.
"However," he adds, "We need to get more information on her father and try to get as much as we can on what HYDRA did to her." The two agents nod.
"Romanoff, I want you to go back to interrogating her. You seem to be able to draw the most out of her: good and bad," Nat nods as Fury directs his attention to Clint, "Barton, get this girl a social security card, birth certificate, any legal documents she may need to be on her own. We will need to find her a place to live to set her up. She doesn't know what all she will need, so we need to get this stuff to help her out. She'll need to know how to find a job, what to wear to an interview, basic house maintenance, you know what to do. I mean she's been held captive for fourteen years."
