Lagos

Over the past few months, Madelyn has really been enjoying her life. She's gotten closer to Nat, Wanda, and Sam. She rarely sees Clint, but he texts her often to make sure she's okay. She's even been able to spend more time with Tony. He lets her sit in the lab with him as he works, and she takes notes, trying to learn and be better educated. He patched up her suit from the Ultron incidents, and he lets her experiment with some projects in the lab as well. She's even developed somewhat of a relationship with Steve. It's been good: they spend time together, but sometimes he can be a little awkward in expressing any romantic feelings or even labeling what they have as an actual relationship. It's her first relationship...more of a situationship, but she takes what she can get.
Recently, Steve has been a lot more distant than usual. He's been working with Sam trying to find Bucky Barnes...Madelyn only knows a little bit about Bucky, but she knows he means a lot to Steve.
"Come on, going to Lagos. Suit up," Steve pops his head into the kitchen, telling Madelyn, Wanda, and Nat to get ready.
Once the three are in their suits, they each have questions about what's going on, but Steve doesn't give much information.
When they arrive in Lagos, they zero in on the target: Bucky. Unfortunately, once Cap gets to him, he finds out it's Rumlow NOT Barnes. Rumlow sets off a bomb blast to destroy both himself and Cap, but Wanda contains the blast. The blast is so intense though that Wanda can't contain it entirely, and it explodes causing destruction and fatalities to citizens in a nearby building.
Madelyn and Nat rush over to comfort Wanda as they see her crying, trying to remind her that it was an accident.

Avengers Compound

The days after Lagos have been somber. Wanda is stricken with grief over the accident. Steve and Sam are still searching for Barnes. Nat secretly continues to look for Bruce Banner, but it's no use. Tony is stricken with grief as well after being confronted about someone's son innocently dying from an attack the Avengers were involved in.
Madelyn is torn: she sees the frustration Steve is experiencing, but she also notes the pain and guilt Tony shows. She doesn't like the idea of being controlled by the government, but seeing all the innocent lives negatively impacted makes her think the Accords may be their best option for civilians safety.
The Avengers head into the meeting room to find Tony, Vision, and Thaddeus Ross ready to discuss the Accords. Ross explains to them that they have a few days to decide on signing in Vienna, but if they do not sign then they are essentially resigning from the Avengers. If they act outside of the Accords, they could be arrested for breaking the agreement.
As the meeting wraps up, she can already see the Avengers taking sides. Nat and Rhodey agree to sign the Accords along with Tony and Vision, but Sam and Wanda disagree along with Steve. Madelyn feels caught in the middle.
She glances over at Steve noticing him taking a phone call. His face falls as he gets some news. Madelyn crosses the room to find out what happened, but before she can comfort him, he walks away, leaving her there longingly looking in his direction.
