"journey to the unknown"
third person povTHE CAMP
That night, the group were sitting around the fire that burned slowly as the members of the group watched it silently. There had been many conversations about what their next plan was, they needed to leave the mountains because the camp wasn't safe anymore; walkers were coming from the city and it wouldn't be long before this place was overrun. It was Rick's idea to go to the CDC, a facility where tests would have been carried out to try and end this pandemic but Shane was leaning towards the military base of Fort Benning. They were in completely different directions; it was a gamble whatever one they chose but they had to choose one of them because they had no chance of surviving if they stayed where they were. Isabel set beside Glenn and Dale next to the fire, she was tired after the long day that they had shared, burying their friends and burning the walkers; her eyes were barely staying open as she listened to Shane clear his throat.
"I've, uh, I've been thinking about Rick's plan and look, there's, uh, there's no guarantees either way, I'll be the first one to admit that. I've known this man a long time, I trust his instincts, I say the most important thing here is we need to stay together." He explained, glancing over to his best friend, who nodded in agreement with his words, grateful that Shane was changing the plan in his favour. "So, those of you that agree, we leave first thing in the morning, okay?"
Glenn nodded, attempting to stand up from the fire but felt something heavy on his shoulder and turned to see that Isabel had fallen asleep, leaning on him. His heart hammered loudly against his chest; he was more than happy to be this close to the girl that he cared about but he didn't know whether he was flattered that she had used him as a pillow because it meant that he couldn't move without waking her up. His eyes flickered around the fire, landing on the closest person that he hoped would help him. "Hey, uh, Lori, Lori, a little help?"
"Goodnight Glenn." She smirked, not able to fight the expression on her face as she saw the predicament that he was in; finding it hilarious that the tough independent woman had fallen asleep on his shoulder and knew that she could tease her about it for the rest of their days.
The others around the fire began to leave, wanting to settle down for the night; Glenn looked at them with hopeful expressions, wondering if any of them would help him but Rick just messed up his hair, Andrea chuckled under her breath and Dale shook his head at the pairing. There was only one more person left to ask and Glenn didn't have his expectations set very high. "Daryl, hey, Daryl, please, please, man-"
"Good luck with that." Daryl grunted, patting the boy on the shoulder before moving past him to rest for the night because the journey the next day would be long and tiring; he needed as much rest as possible before they left.
When the sun rose the next morning, everyone was up and getting ready to leave camp. They packed away what was left of the tents and packed the firewood into the trunk of the car, knowing that it would be useful if they needed to start a fire on the road. Everyone was in charge of packing their own belongings, including whatever spare clothes they could carry and personal things that they wanted to cherish. Isabel only carried her backpack, wanting to pack lightly, feeling chipper than ever as she made her way across camp with the bag on her back; she noticed that Glenn was cracking his bones and groaning but didn't think to ask him what had happened, she guessed that it had something to do with the burial service the previous day. It had been hard work carrying bodies around camp; she didn't remember falling asleep on his shoulder the night before. "Good sleep last night, Ortega?" Dale called after her, helping Andrea to carry one of her bags onto the RV; the girl smiled kindly to him but didn't understand the taunting undertones of his question, she nodded, hopping onto one of the cars next to Glenn to listen to what Shane was telling everyone.
